I chose rock climbing as my activity because it combines both physical challenge and mental focus, which I find exciting and motivating. I’ve always been drawn to activities that push me to test my limits, and climbing feels like the perfect way to do that. It’s not just about strength, but also about strategy, balance, and problem-solving, which makes every climb a new puzzle to figure out. Personally, I think rock climbing will help me grow because it forces me to face fear directly and trust myself to push through it. I also like that it requires determination and perseverance—qualities I want to strengthen in myself. On a personal level, I’ve sometimes struggled with overthinking, and climbing gives me a way to focus completely on the present moment. I believe this activity will not only help me improve my physical fitness but also build my confidence, resilience, and ability to stay calm under pressure—skills that will support me in many areas of life.
1. Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.
Through rock climbing, I was able to identify my own strengths and recognize areas for personal growth. I realized that I have good determination and the willingness to keep trying even when I fail at first, which helped me push through difficult climbs. At the same time, I noticed that I need to work on my upper body strength and flexibility, as these are crucial for improving my performance. Rock climbing also made me aware of my tendency to overthink, which sometimes slows me down, and gave me the opportunity to practice trusting my instincts more. By identifying both my strengths and weaknesses, I was able to reflect on how to improve myself not only in climbing but also in other aspects of life where perseverance and balance are important.
2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
Rock climbing presented me with several challenges, both physically and mentally, which allowed me to develop new skills in the process. At first, I found the height intimidating and struggled with maintaining my grip and balance on more difficult routes. However, by repeatedly practicing and pushing myself, I learned techniques such as better foot placement, controlled breathing, and distributing my weight efficiently. These challenges also helped me build greater mental resilience, as I had to overcome fear and stay calm in stressful moments. Through this experience, I not only gained climbing-specific skills but also developed patience, focus, and confidence in my ability to face obstacles and keep improving.
4. Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.
Rock climbing required consistent effort and dedication, and I showed commitment by regularly practicing despite the physical and mental challenges. There were times when I felt frustrated after failing to complete a climb, but I pushed myself to try again and improve step by step. Sticking to the activity even when it was difficult taught me the value of perseverance and discipline. By committing to this experience over time, I was able to see clear progress in my strength, technique, and confidence. This reminded me that real growth only comes when we keep going, even through setbacks.

Overall, rock climbing has been a meaningful CAS experience that helped me grow in multiple ways. It pushed me to recognize my strengths and weaknesses, take on challenges, and remain committed even when I felt discouraged. Through this activity, I developed new physical and mental skills while also learning the importance of perseverance, focus, and resilience. Beyond climbing itself, these lessons will stay with me in everyday life, reminding me that with determination and the right mindset, I can overcome obstacles and continue growing as a person.
