HDP PS – Activity

Playing football regularly in school under the PS slot has been one of the most important aspects of my school life. It has given me a platform not just to engage in physical activity but to build discipline, teamwork, and a genuine love for the sport. Over the years, football has grown from being just a game I played at school to something that has shaped my identity and routine. The training sessions, the matches, and the bond with teammates have all been significant in my personal growth. At the same time, I have encountered challenges, from the exhaustion of rigorous practice sessions to the setback of a ligament injury, both of which tested my resilience and love for the sport.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Through football, I was able to identify several of my strengths. One of them was my ability to remain disciplined and dedicated during regular practice sessions. I also recognized my natural competitiveness, which pushed me to give my best effort on the field. Over time, I became more aware of my strengths as a team player, particularly in encouraging others and contributing to building team spirit during practice and matches.

At the same time, playing football also revealed areas where I needed growth. For instance, I realized I sometimes let frustration get the better of me when I made mistakes or when the team underperformed. Additionally, after my ligament injury, I learned that I needed to work on patience and recovery, rather than rushing back into play. These moments helped me see that growth is as important as skill, and football became the avenue through which I worked on both.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

Football constantly challenged me in ways that helped me develop new skills. The intensity of practice sessions often left me exhausted, and at first, I struggled to balance schoolwork with training. Over time, I developed better stamina, time management, and self-discipline, which allowed me to meet both academic and sporting demands.

The biggest challenge, however, was facing my ligament injury. Initially, the injury felt devastating because it kept me away from the sport I loved. But in dealing with it, I learned the importance of listening to my body, undergoing proper rehabilitation, and gradually rebuilding my strength. This challenge helped me gain a new skill which was resilience in the face of setbacks. It also taught me to value the process of recovery and growth rather than only focusing on results.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

My football journey has been defined by perseverance and commitment. Despite the physical exhaustion of long practice sessions, I consistently showed up and gave my best effort, motivated by the joy I found in the sport. Even when matches didn’t go as planned, I stayed committed to the team and focused on improvement. Football required me to dedicate myself regularly, and this commitment taught me the value of persistence in achieving both small and big goals.

The ligament injury was perhaps the biggest test of my perseverance. There were moments when I doubted whether I could play again at the same level. However, I stayed committed to recovery, worked hard on physiotherapy, and slowly regained my confidence on the field. Coming back after the injury deepened my love for the sport and reinforced the lesson that commitment means continuing even when circumstances become difficult. Moreover, being a girl playing a male-dominated or male-centric sport also made me persistent of my goals and not become demotivated by people around judging me for playing this sport or undermining my calibre when it came to facing against boys.

In conclusion, playing football under the PS slot has been more than just an extracurricular, it has been a journey of personal growth, challenge, and perseverance. The sport gave me a platform to identify my strengths, such as discipline and teamwork, while also revealing areas for growth, such as patience and emotional control. By facing challenges like exhaustion and injury, I developed new skills in resilience, time management, and recovery. Most importantly, my commitment to football, even during difficult times, taught me perseverance and strengthened my bond with the game.
