FS MUN – [Creativity]

I was a member of the press in the FS MUN where my role was to observe conferences and prepare reports about the highlights of those conferences. This was my very first MUN, I decided to be a part of it after listening to the experiences of my friends who had been a part of it before. After the MUN I really feel like it is something everybody must experience at least once. It teaches you a lot even if you do not plan to go in such a feild. Not only does not adds to your experiences but it is also a very fun medium to expand your network with students and participants from other schools.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
During the MUN as part of the press team, I realized that one of my strengths was observation and writing under time pressure. I could quickly capture delegates’ arguments and translate them into concise, engaging articles. However, I also realized that I needed to work on asking sharper questions during press conferences. Identifying these strengths and areas of growth allowed me to understand how I could become a more confident and impactful communicator in future events.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Taking part in the press team was a challenge since I had never been in that role before. I was nervous about whether my writing would meet the expectations of a formal MUN setting. However, by researching formats, practicing quick note-taking, and learning to adapt to the pace of debates, I developed skills in concise reporting and active listening. This challenge taught me the importance of adaptability when faced with something unfamiliar.

LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Staying committed during the three days of MUN was challenging because of the long sessions and constant need to focus. Despite feeling drained at times, I persevered and made sure that each article I wrote was polished and well-rounded. I resisted the urge to take shortcuts and instead dedicated myself to consistent quality. This perseverance gave me pride in my work and showed me that sustained effort produces results I can be proud of.

LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Working in the press team required close collaboration with other members. We divided responsibilities, shared notes, and gave feedback on each other’s work to ensure the school newsletter was balanced and accurate. This collaborative effort showed me the power of teamwork, as each person’s contribution strengthened the final product. I also learned that listening and compromising are key skills in collaborative environments, especially when working under time pressure.

LO6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Being part of the MUN press allowed me to engage with discussions on pressing global issues, from climate change to international security. I had to follow debates closely to report accurately, which gave me a deeper understanding of global conflicts and their implications. Writing about these issues made me more aware of how interconnected the world is and how youth participation in such debates is significant for the future.

LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
As a press member, I had to be careful about ethical reporting. I realized that the way I chose to frame an article could impact how readers perceived the debate. This responsibility made me reflect on the importance of fairness, accuracy, and neutrality in journalism. By consciously avoiding bias or exaggeration, I developed a greater appreciation for the ethical weight of communication and the role it plays in shaping perspectives.
