CAS Project: Organizing blood donation camp [Creativity, Activity, Service]

My team and I organized blood donation camps. We contacted NGOs that collect blood, we prepared posters and invitations to encourage people to donate blood, we prepared certificates and more. This experience was a unique one for me since I had never done something like this before. After the donation our team got a lot of praises about how thoughtful this initiative of ours was which made us all really proud. Not only that, but we also got to learn a lot throughout the process.

LO1 Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth:
Through organizing the blood donation camp, I discovered that I have strong organizational and communication skills. I was able to coordinate with doctors, NGOs, and volunteers effectively, and this gave me confidence in my leadership abilities. However, I also realized that I struggled when unexpected problems arose, such as last-minute cancellations or logistical errors. I became anxious and sometimes found it difficult to stay calm in those situations. This showed me that I need to develop my problem-solving under pressure and remain composed when things do not go as planned. Recognizing this helped me grow, as I consciously tried to step back, analyze the issue, and ask for help when necessary, rather than panicking.

LO2 Undertaking challenges and developing new skills:
One of the greatest challenges I faced was ensuring that all parts of the camp ran smoothly. Coordinating with medical professionals, encouraging participants to donate, and making sure everything was safe pushed me beyond my comfort zone. I learned new skills in managing logistics, delegating work to volunteers, and handling unexpected shortages of supplies. Initially, I found it intimidating to take responsibility for such an important event, but by the end I realized that the challenges helped me grow in confidence and taught me how to deal with real-world obstacles effectively.

LO3 Initiate and plan a CAS experience:
This project required extensive planning from start to finish. I had to reach out to NGOs, fix a date, arrange for doctors, and ensure that enough participants registered. Creating a clear timeline and breaking tasks into smaller steps helped me stay on track. I learned that proper planning and communication are essential for success, because without structure, the event could easily have been chaotic. The experience taught me how to transform an idea into action through detailed preparation.

LO4 Show perseverance and commitment:
The blood donation camp required months of preparation, and there were times when I felt overwhelmed by the constant follow-ups and work. However, I stayed committed to the project, reminding myself of its importance and the impact it could create. On the day of the event, I ensured that I was present from start to finish, supporting participants and coordinating volunteers. By persevering despite stress and setbacks, I experienced the satisfaction of seeing the project succeed and understood how commitment is crucial to meaningful service.

LO5 Work collaboratively:
This camp would not have been possible without teamwork. I collaborated with NGOs, doctors, and volunteers, and each person played a vital role in making the event run smoothly. I learned the value of clear communication and trust in others, as no single person could have managed such a large project alone. By working together, we not only shared the workload but also brought in diverse perspectives that enriched the planning process. This taught me that collaboration leads to better outcomes than working in isolation.

LO6 Engage with issues of global significance:
The experience helped me realize that blood donation is not just a local issue but a global one. There is a universal need for safe and voluntary blood donation to save lives. Through the camp, I understood how small-scale initiatives like ours can contribute to addressing a much larger global concern. It made me feel connected to a worldwide effort to promote health and well-being, and I became more aware of the importance of encouraging such practices in society.

LO7 Consider the ethics of choices and actions:
Ethics were a key part of this project. I had to ensure that every participant donated voluntarily, that they were medically fit, and that the donation process was safe and transparent. It was important to respect participants’ decisions, especially when some changed their mind at the last moment. I learned that ethical responsibility means prioritizing people’s health and dignity over the success of the event. By considering the ethical implications of my choices, I ensured that the camp upheld the values of safety, respect, and responsibility.
