CAS Activity: One-Day Trek to Bhavar Kada

Introduction

I undertook a one-day trek to Bhavar Kada during the rainy season as part of my CAS Activity. The trek involved ascending steep trails, navigating slippery rocks, and coping with mercurial weather, which made it physically demanding and mentally invigorating. The activity pushed me out of my comfort zone while allowing me to build resilience, teamwork, and decision-making.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.

The rain also made the trek especially challenging, with muddy trails that required careful negotiation to avoid falls. I had to learn fast, learning how to balance and pace myself on uneven terrain along with managing my stamina. The challenges sharpened my problem-solving skills throughout the trek and taught me how to remain focused under difficult circumstances. Above all else, I learned the value of preparation and situational awareness, two essential skills for outdoor activities.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experienceance

Despite the physical strain of hiking in rain-soaked trail conditions, I was resolved to complete the trek. There were moments when fatigue and the harshness of the trail made me give up, but with sheer willpower and encouragement from peers, I continued. My resolve not only allowed me to complete the trek but also to relish the rewarding experience of reaching the summit. The persistence taught me the importance of commitment and determination in overcoming adversity.

LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Throughout the hike, I was aware of moral responsibilities such as maintaining the cleanliness of the trail and being safe for myself and others. Not littering, being kind to the natural environment, and assisting peers who were struggling were conscious moral choices that I took throughout the activity. These actions were highlighted by the requirement that outdoor activities involve responsibility and respect, not only for nature but also for other participants.

Conclusion

Overall, the Bhavar Kada trek was a successful CAS experience that developed my physical and mental endurance. It allowed me to develop new skills, demonstrate persistence, and reflect on the place of ethical conduct in shared spaces. This activity connected most closely to the Balanced learner profile attribute in that I learned to take care of my physical well-being while also being accountable to nature and other people.
