Hosting the MYP Freshers’ Party

For my CAS project, I took on the role of a host for the MYP Freshers’ Party, an event organized to welcome new students into the school community. My main goals were to ensure smooth flow of the event, engage the audience, and create a welcoming atmosphere for the new students. As host, I wanted to practice confidence in public speaking, improve time management, and learn how to handle unexpected challenges on stage. Beyond entertaining, my objective was to make the newcomers feel included, valued, and excited about their MYP journey.

LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

During this experience, I realized that my strengths lie in creativity, teamwork, and attention to detail, which helped in designing decorations and organizing the dance segment. However, I also noticed that I tend to overthink small details, which can slow down the overall process. Recognizing this helped me learn to balance perfection with efficiency, which I aim to improve in future projects.

LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

The biggest challenge was managing time effectively while juggling multiple tasks such as décor setup and performance coordination. I developed new skills in multitasking, improvising when materials were limited, and working under pressure to meet event deadlines. This experience strengthened my ability to adapt and problem-solve quickly.

LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

Before the event, I helped plan the decoration theme, performance sequence, and schedule. This required coordination with the event committee, performers, and teachers. I learned how important early planning and communication are to ensure that each element of the event aligns smoothly.

LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

The preparation process took several days, involving long hours of decorating and rehearsing. Even when tired, I stayed committed to completing the setup and supporting the team. This perseverance helped the event run smoothly and gave me a strong sense of accomplishment.

LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Teamwork was key to the success of this event. I worked with peers who handled music, dance, and logistics, and we supported each other when things didn’t go as planned. This taught me that collaboration and mutual understanding make group projects more efficient and enjoyable.

LO 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

Although the Freshers’ Party was a school event, it promoted the global value of inclusion by welcoming new students into a diverse environment. This reflects the importance of community-building and belonging, values that hold global relevance in an increasingly interconnected world.

This CAS experience helped me develop creativity, collaboration, and organizational skills while also strengthening my ability to stay patient and adaptable. I developed learner profile attributes such as CommunicatorPrincipled, and Caring. The event not only benefited new students but also strengthened bonds among peers. Seeing the decorations come together and the performances run smoothly made me feel proud of our teamwork and planning.
