CSP Group 4 Project

The CSP was one of the most distinctive . It did not involve writing examinations and learning of formulae but teamwork, creativity, and solving of problems. We had the chance to brainstorm, design, and practically apply science in a manner. The entire process was categorized into three stages namely, planning, action and reflection. Planning meant idea generation and allocation of a task, action involved hands-on-building and testing our models and reflection meant reflecting on our work by recounting what was effective, what was not and what we learned as a collective. The special thing about the project was that it greatly demonstrated the linkages between science and reality. We were not supposed to indulge in working on our own subjects but had to think beyond our subjects and work in collaboration with each other in order to come out with something meaningful. It made us improve our communication skills, to be able to think critically and change when something went out of hand.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth Screen reader support enabled

One of my strengths, which I displayed throughout the project will be creative thinking during the process of brainstorming ideas on how medical aid can be provided in rural areas. I was also able to make distinct recommendations that had assisted us in our group to think of effective but creative solutions. Simultaneously, I understood that I should enhance my expertise in the area of model-making and scientific tool use. This has helped me to mature as I got an opportunity to learn more about the weak areas of my teammates.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

This is certainly complicated work since we had to go beyond theory and build a model that can be workable at all. It took study, experiment and cooperation. There are instances when our very first designs would not work and this made us reconsider them and make them better. Not only did I acquire new skills through this process, including being able to solve problems under pressure, effectively communicating my ideas to the group, and dealing with situations when things did not go according to a previous plan.

LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance

Our project was based on the problem of medical aid accessibility in the rural and undeveloped regions which is a worldwide question. Much of the world has limited access to quality health infrastructure and this is what motivated us to come up with models that could increase the availability of health resources. By working on this project, I have become more conscious of how science and innovation can be applied to solve the global inequalities and enhancing lives.
