Enrichmnt;

Being a  part of an NGO named “Enrichmnt;” has been one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had during CAS. The organization was started by one of my close friends, and I’m really glad I got the chance to be involved. Through it, I’ve been teaching at a government school where most students come from underprivileged backgrounds and don’t have access to the same resources or opportunities that many of us take for granted. Being able to contribute, even in a small way, made me feel like I was doing something that mattered. For several months, I taught the young children various subjects like basic mathematics, English alphabet and words and science. Along with that I also became a part of conducting a life class where we taught children the importance of gardening by planting over 20 plants in their school garden.

Learning Outcome 3 – Demonstrate Commitment to Organization and Developing Leadership Skills

Organizing and leading the gardening life class at the government school was one of the best parts about my CAS journey with Enrichmnt;. I committed to this activity from the planning stage and stayed involved through to the end. We wanted to teach the students a practical life skill and decided to focus on the importance of caring for the environment through gardening. As a group we took the responsibility for organizing the materials, gathering saplings, tools, and coordinating with the school about space and timing. On the day of the activity, I helped guide the children step by step as we planted saplings in the school garden. Leading the session taught me how to stay patient, organized, and clear in my communication, especially when working with young children. It also showed me how important consistency and leadership are in making sure an idea becomes a successful and impactful experience.

Learning Outcome 5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Teaching the students was definitely not a solo activity. From the start, it was a group effort. We would plan together, check in regularly about who is leading the session, and even split teaching tasks between us. In the beginning, it was a little difficult because we all had different ideas and weren’t used to managing a classroom. But with time, we understood each other’s strengths in teaching a subject and divided lessons accordingly. We tried to focus on each student and made sure each of them understood what was taught. Handling a group of 20+ students on our own wouldn’t have been possible without strong teamwork.

Learning Outcome 6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

One of the biggest global issues today is the lack of access to quality education. Millions of children around the world grow up without proper learning environments, and that affects their future. Being part of Enrichmnt; helped me actively engage with this issue. Even though we were working on a small scale, teaching at just one school, I realized that even small efforts can make a real difference. Helping students learn basic concepts and giving them a space to ask questions felt like a small step toward addressing this global challenge. This activity helped me contribute to the objectives of SDG 4 “Quality Education”.

Learning Outcome 7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

There were definitely some ethical concerns that came up while we were teaching. One main issue was whether we were qualified enough to be teaching in the first place. We didn’t want to risk giving wrong information or confusing the students. To handle that, we made sure to plan every session carefully. We always checked our content beforehand and sometimes asked the teachers at the school for guidance or feedback.

Overall, my experience with Enrichmnt; has been really valuable. I’ve been a part of the NGO for over a year  now, and I definitely plan to continue. It’s helped me understand how important education is, not just as a right but as a tool that shapes lives. Teaching the students has taught me just as much in return about patience, teamwork, responsibility, and the impact of small actions.
