Anand Utsav

I had the opportunity to volunteer for Anand Utsav, a day dedicated to appreciating the support staff at Fountainhead School. As part of a Grade 11 student team, I helped organize and run activities aimed at fostering stronger bonds between the school’s didis and bhaiyas and the student community. The event included games, performances, and shared experiences that brought everyone together in celebration and gratitude.

Learning Outcomes Demonstrated:

  • LO3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience:
  • I was actively involved in the planning process, from brainstorming creative ideas to dividing responsibilities among team members and preparing materials for the event. Contributing to these steps helped me understand the importance of foresight and organization in creating an impactful experience. Planning also gave me a sense of ownership and responsibility toward the success of the event.
  • LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively:
  • Teamwork was central to the success of Anand Utsav. Clear communication, shared responsibilities, and mutual support allowed us to create a smooth and engaging program for the support staff. I realized how much easier and more enjoyable the process became when everyone contributed equally and encouraged each other. Working collaboratively not only improved efficiency but also strengthened the bonds within our own Grade 11 team.
  • LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance:
  • Celebrating and valuing the contributions of the support staff reflected principles of inclusivity and equality, which connect directly to Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities. The event reminded me that social recognition and respect are as important as financial compensation in ensuring dignity and fairness. This has global significance, as every community depends on individuals whose contributions often go unnoticed.
  • LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions:
  • Coordinating the event under time pressure and handling logistical details taught me the importance of making thoughtful and responsible decisions. I learned to balance efficiency with respect, ensuring that the event was not rushed or mechanical but genuinely meaningful for the support staff. This required problem-solving, adaptability, and ethical awareness to ensure our actions reflected true appreciation rather than a formality.

Reflection:
This experience taught me the value of appreciation and the impact small acts of gratitude can have. It deepened my respect for the support staff and highlighted how meaningful connection can foster a more united school community. Anand Utsav reminded me that service doesn’t always mean grand gestures—it can simply be about making someone feel seen and valued.
