For my activity strand, I participated in a series of 3-kilometer runs with students from different grades (7&8, 9&10, and 11&12). This experience was not just about physical endurance; it also reinforced the importance of promoting SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. Despite the challenging conditions, including intense heat and heavy winds, the experience was a powerful reminder of the benefits of resilience and community engagement in staying active.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Before starting the series of 3 kilometer runs, I knew my endurance and stamina was good because in the previous month I had participated in a 2 kilometer marathon which I was able to complete. However, it also revealed areas for growth, such as the need to better prepare for extreme weather conditions. For instance, during the runs, I realized I could improve my hydration and recovery routines, which are essential for maintaining health and well-being. Recognizing these areas for improvement has inspired me to refine my fitness approach and become a better role model for others.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Encountering heavy winds during one run and scorching heat in others tested my adaptability. These conditions made it harder to maintain energy levels and pace. I developed new strategies, such as slowing my pace to conserve energy during high winds and practicing deep breathing to stay calm and focused. These challenges also deepened my understanding of how to support others during physically demanding activities, further aligning with the goal of fostering well-being in my community.
LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Completing three challenging runs, each with unique hurdles, demonstrated my perseverance and commitment to the activity. There were moments when the weather and fatigue seemed overwhelming, but my determination to finish each run motivated me to push through. My consistent effort also inspired others to stay focused and complete the runs, showcasing how collective commitment can amplify the impact of physical activities on overall health and well-being.
This CAS activity not only enhanced my fitness but also promoted SDG 3 by encouraging good health and well-being among students. Through identifying strengths, tackling challenges, and staying committed, I grew both personally and as a mentor to my peers. This experience reaffirmed the importance of staying active and resilient in the face of challenges—a lesson I’ll carry forward in life.
