CAS Reflection format
CAS Trip: Rural immersion Ambapani
For my CAS Trip we went to the ecotourism site of Ambapani near Dang river and the Purna river. We had for 6 days and each day we were put out of our comfort zone and challenged to do activities that catered to all CAS principles of creativity, activity and service. Aside from these activities we also traveled to different villages and interacted with the villagers to know about their life and their routines as well as their standard of living.
LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
During the CAS trip, I identified my strength in creativity through Lippan art and Warli painting since I already like to do art and use my creativity, while realizing my weakness in endurance during trekking and being pushed out of my comfort zone. Being aware of this helped me improve and grow. Knowing our strengths boosts confidence, while recognizing weaknesses allows for self-improvement. I would like to work on my endurance, as better stamina would have made trekking more enjoyable. Overcoming this weakness would help in future physically demanding activities, making me more resilient and adaptable.
LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
The CAS trip was challenging due to trekking’s physical demands and adapting to rural life. It was difficult because of unfamiliar terrains and new artistic techniques like Lippan art and Warli painting. Though I hadn’t done basket weaving before, I learned through practice. Overcoming these challenges boosted my confidence and adaptability. Learning new skills like patience and teamwork will help in future projects. This experience made me appreciate diverse cultures and reinforced the importance of continuous learning and personal growth.
LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
For the CAS trip, I organized myself by making a checklist of essentials and scheduling time for different activities. I am usually organized, but balancing multiple tasks was challenging. Planning was harder than initiating since coordinating activities like trekking, art, and community engagement required foresight. I discovered adaptability and communication skills. Future planning will be easier as I’ve learned time management. Planning is crucial for smooth execution, ensuring meaningful engagement and maximizing learning from creativity, activity, and service experiences.
LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
This CAS trip required perseverance in trekking through challenging terrains and adapting to rural life. Engaging in activities like Lippan art, Warli painting, and basket weaving demanded patience and dedication. Commitment was essential to fully immerse in nature and connect with local communities. While I find it easy to commit to meaningful experiences, persistence was key in overcoming physical and creative challenges. Perseverance fosters personal growth, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for culture, creativity, and service.
LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Working with others is generally easy for me, but challenges arise when opinions differ. During the CAS trip, teamwork was essential for trekking safely, coordinating nature immersion, and engaging in cultural activities like Lippan art and Warli painting. Some members struggled with communication, but patience and clear discussions helped. Collaboration allowed us to learn from rural artisans and support local communities. Leadership played a key role in organizing activities, ensuring efficiency, and making the experience enriching and impactful for everyone.
LO 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
The CAS trip highlighted issues like environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and rural development. These are globally significant as deforestation, loss of heritage, and economic disparity affect communities worldwide. Engaging with rural artisans and nature made me more conscious of sustainability and cultural appreciation. Understanding these issues has broadened my perspective and deepened my empathy. I feel inspired to support traditional crafts and environmental initiatives. Through this experience, I actively contributed to awareness and preservation, making a tangible impact.
LO 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
The ethical issues involved included respecting local communities, ensuring cultural appreciation rather than appropriation, and minimizing environmental impact during trekking and nature immersion. These issues affected me indirectly by making me more conscious of responsible tourism. It made me feel responsible for preserving traditions and nature. Before this trip, I was aware of ethical travel, but experiencing it firsthand deepened my understanding. My perspective has shifted—I now actively consider sustainability and cultural sensitivity in all my travels and activities.
The CAS trip was an enriching experience that blended adventure, creativity, and service. Trekking and nature immersion deepened my appreciation for the environment, while exploring rural areas and engaging with local communities fostered cultural awareness. Participating in Lippan art, Warli painting, and basket weaving enhanced my creative skills and respect for traditional crafts. The service activities reinforced the importance of giving back. Overall, this journey broadened my perspective, strengthened teamwork, and instilled a lasting sense of gratitude and responsibility.
