I had the opportunity to participate in the Creative Mela organized by my school, where I was responsible for leading workshops for two different grade groups: Grades 3 & 4 and Grades 5 & 6. For the younger students, I conducted a rubber band bracelet-making session, while for the older students, I facilitated a dream catcher-making workshop. This experience required careful planning, creative thinking, and effective communication to ensure both activities were engaging and successful.
Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills in the Process
Organizing and conducting workshops for two distinct age groups presented its own set of challenges. Younger children required more hands-on guidance and simplified instructions, while the older group needed more detailed explanations and room for creative expression. I had to adjust my communication style for each group, ensuring that all students could follow along and enjoy the experience. This adaptability helped me grow my problem-solving skills and build confidence in leading creative sessions.

Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate How to Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience
Planning the workshops from start to finish required careful consideration of various factors. I selected suitable materials, prepared samples, and ensured there were enough supplies for all participants. Additionally, I created step-by-step instructions for both activities and practiced the crafts multiple times to refine my own skills. Anticipating possible challenges, like students needing extra assistance or running out of materials, helped me prepare effectively. This experience enhanced my organizational and leadership abilities.
Learning Outcome 4: Show Commitment to and Perseverance in CAS Experiences
Throughout the planning and implementation of the workshops, I demonstrated commitment by consistently refining my skills and preparing thoroughly. On the day of the Creative Mela, I remained patient and enthusiastic despite moments of fatigue and the inevitable unpredictability of working with young children. My perseverance ensured that both workshops ran smoothly and that every student left with a finished product they were proud of.
Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate the Skills and Recognize the Benefits of Working Collaboratively
While I led the workshops independently, collaboration played a key role in the planning process. I consulted with teachers and fellow students to gather ideas, source materials, and troubleshoot challenges. Additionally, engaging with the students during the sessions required active listening and clear communication. By creating a supportive and interactive environment, I encouraged students to express their creativity and assist one another, fostering a sense of teamwork within the groups.

Learning Outcome 7: Recognize and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions
Conducting workshops for young students required responsible decision-making, particularly regarding material selection and waste management. I opted for eco-friendly materials where possible and encouraged students to minimize waste. Additionally, I ensured that the activities were inclusive, providing extra support to those who needed it and celebrating every student’s efforts. These choices reflected my commitment to ethical decision-making and promoting a positive learning experience.
Learner Profile Attributes: Knowledgeable, Thinker, Communicator
Through this experience, I demonstrated the learner profile attribute of being knowledgeable by applying my understanding of the crafts and effectively teaching the students. As a thinker, I quickly adapted to unexpected situations, like students needing alternative methods to complete their projects. Additionally, my role as a communicator was essential in delivering clear instructions, actively listening to students’ questions, and providing encouragement. The ability to connect with and support students of varying ages further strengthened my communication skills.
Overall, the Creative Mela was a rewarding experience that allowed me to apply my creativity, develop leadership skills, and make a positive impact on younger students. It was an opportunity to grow both personally and as a responsible, engaged member of my school community.
