CAS Reflection Blog: Grade 12 Farewell – Decor Team

It was indeed a creative and collaborative challenge being part of the Grade 12 Farewell Decor Team. It aimed to make the place memorable and beautiful, allowing the graduating class to really have a meaningful and enjoyable send-off. I have developed new skills, faced challenges, and performed excellently as part of a team, all while further improving my communication skills in getting ideas clear and executing them well.

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

I learned to pay attention to the little details and get ideas from creative approaches to meet the event’s theme for me as an experience. However, as time went on, I realized that time management was something I needed to work on. Completing numerous tasks resulted in really tight deadlines, and prioritizing and delegating duties consistently and wisely became fundamental skills I learned to acquire.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

Last-minute changes and limited resources yet creating an exciting visual ambience set the topmost challenge. We did not have some materials so had to come up with different designs while setting. It made me think quicker and made changes while keeping in mind the theme and quality of the decor. It would need problem-solving ability and adaptability.

LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

Emotionally and physically difficult was the farewell decor. Long hours are spent setting up and applying intricate handling. Then, adjustments are made over and over to ensure everything that will be perfect is done that way. Weak then exhausted, yet committed, our team faced such challenges and made sure that every single piece was well-placed to create a nice setting of the event. It was all worth it when we saw the outcome of the final set from what had been done.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working in collaboration

Collaboration was indeed the most important part of this experience. As part of the decorative team, I worked closely with my peers, sharing ideas and coordinating different aspects of the decorations right from backdrop designs to table arrangements. This meant that there was a lot of pooling and synergizing of strengths in the entire team, and thus, we could bring our dream to reality together. We also had some coordination with other teams like lighting and stage crew, so that everything went in tandem for the entire event aesthetics.

LO7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

We also made ethical judgments during the planning process, such as ensuring our decors were sustainable through less wastage and avoided new materials when possible. Be inclusive enough to ensure the entire graduating class is referred to in the decors and that everybody feels welcome in it.

Learner Profile Attribute Developed: Communicator

Communication is an essential tool, as its effective management permits the realization of the artistic vision. My ideas had to be expressed clearly; team members had to be listened to and synchronized with our plan and execution. Collaboration along with other teams called for constant coordination and feedback between teams to make certain that our work stuck to the overall design of the event. I grew in my ability to work in teams, communicate ideas, and take constructive feedback during the whole process.

Conclusion

Being part of the decor team for Grade 12 Farewell offered a fair grounds for creativity, teamwork, and learned resilience to tackle challenges. It strengthened the importance of communication and ethical choices on a large-scale project. Eventually, the realization of the setup and seeing the joy on the faces of the graduating class members rendered the effort worthwhile and reinforced valuable lessons learned about planning, teamwork, and flexibility.
