Global Odyssey was a school-organized event that celebrated cultural diversity, creativity, and entrepreneurship. For this experience, my friends and I planned and ran an accessories stall where we sold items such as bracelets, rings, and necklaces. What initially appeared to be a simple activity became a meaningful CAS experience that allowed me to grow personally, socially, and ethically while clearly meeting all the CAS learning outcomes.
The experience began with planning and initiative, where we decided to set up an accessories stall and discussed product selection, budgeting, pricing, and stall design. Through this process, I was able to identify my strengths and areas for growth (LO 1). I recognized that I am confident when communicating ideas and working with others, but I also realized that I initially lacked confidence in making decisions under uncertainty. Acknowledging this encouraged me to take more responsibility and become more decisive as the experience progressed. By actively contributing ideas and helping organize our plan, I also demonstrated the ability to initiate and plan a CAS experience (LO 3).
During the event itself, I faced several challenges that required adaptability and perseverance. Attracting customers in a competitive environment, managing sales during busy periods, and maintaining enthusiasm for long hours were all demanding tasks. By engaging confidently with customers, learning how to promote our accessories effectively, and handling money responsibly, I undertook challenges that helped me develop new skills (LO 2). Even when sales slowed or I felt physically tired, I continued to stay engaged and motivated, showing sustained effort and commitment to the experience (LO 4).
Working alongside my friends was central to the success of our stall. We divided responsibilities based on individual strengths, communicated constantly, and supported one another during both busy and slow moments. Through this collaboration, I learned the importance of teamwork, flexibility, and mutual respect. This experience helped me demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively (LO 5), as our collective effort resulted in a more organized and successful stall than any of us could have managed individually.
Global Odyssey also encouraged reflection on broader global contexts. The event focused on international cultures and ideas, and interacting with different stalls representing various countries helped me consider how creativity, fashion, and entrepreneurship exist across cultures. Running our accessories stall allowed me to understand how small-scale businesses reflect global economic practices and cultural exchange, which helped me demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance (LO 6), particularly in terms of cultural appreciation and global entrepreneurship.
Ethical considerations were present throughout the experience. We ensured that our pricing was fair, communicated honestly with customers, and handled money with responsibility and transparency. We treated all customers respectfully, regardless of whether they chose to make a purchase. Through these decisions, I was able to recognize and consider the ethics of my choices and actions (LO 7), reinforcing the importance of integrity and accountability in both business and everyday interactions.
Overall, the Global Odyssey accessories stall was a valuable CAS experience that allowed me to develop self-awareness, resilience, teamwork, global understanding, and ethical responsibility. By integrating planning, action, reflection, and collaboration.
