Community service (Service)

For community service I was a part of Art & Craft but as such this was my first ever community service this was one of which I was very much aware of what to do in every session I came. Community service is something I always knew was “important,” but I never really understood why until I actually experienced it myself. When our school announced a community service initiative, I decided to join mainly because I wanted to fulfill my CAS requirement. But I did not expect it to change the way I view people, responsibility, gratitude, and my own ability to make a difference. This experience became much more personal and meaningful than I imagined, and it taught me lessons that I am certain will stay with me far beyond IB.

Doing community service also helped me become more open-minded. I interacted with people from different schools, backgrounds, and age groups. Everyone had their own way of speaking, acting, and dealing with situations. Understanding different perspectives helped me become more flexible and respectful. I started listening more before reacting and became better at handling different personalities. This taught me that every person has their own story and struggles, and being open-minded helps you connect with others better.

This experience also helped me reflect on myself and understand what I’m good at and what I need to improve. For example, I realized that I am good at staying calm in stressful situations, but I need to work more on giving instructions more confidently. I also learned that I enjoy helping others more than I expected. Reflecting on these things helped me grow and understand my strengths and weaknesses.

The LOR’s which follow this community service is

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth Screen reader support enabled.

I learned that I need to become more organized, especially when managing multiple tasks at once. By reflecting on these moments, I understood that improving my confidence, time management, and quick decision-making will help me become a more effective volunteer.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience.

Throughout my community service experience, I showed perseverance and commitment by consistently showing up, completing my duties, and staying dedicated even when the work became difficult or tiring.I also showed commitment by taking my responsibilities seriously. I made sure to arrive on time for every session, follow the rules, and stay until all my tasks were fully completed. Sometimes I had to work longer than expected, or handle situations I didn’t plan for, but I stayed patient and kept doing my best. I didn’t treat community service as just something to finish; I treated it as something meaningful that required sincerity and effort.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.

During my community service experience, I learned how important teamwork is and how much easier tasks become when everyone works together. Working collaboratively also taught me how to listen to others, respect their ideas, and adjust my approach when needed. The benefit of working together was that we were able to complete tasks faster and more efficiently. It made the experience less stressful and more enjoyable because we encouraged one another and shared responsibilities. This teamwork helped create a positive atmosphere, and I realized that collaboration leads to better results than working alone. My community service taught me that strong teamwork is essential for success, especially in busy, real-life situations.

Overall, community service became a very important part of my CAS journey. It gave me a sense of purpose and made me feel proud of myself for contributing to something meaningful. The experience made me more responsible, more confident, and more caring. It helped me understand the importance of giving back to the community and how even small efforts can make a big impact. I learned that service is not just about completing hours it’s about genuinely wanting to help and being there for people when they need support. This experience has shaped me in many ways, and I know the lessons I learned will stay with me for a long time.
