Activity
I participated in a plantation drive where I worked alongside peers and a local NGO to plant trees. The aim of this activity was to contribute to environmental sustainability by increasing green cover and spreading awareness about the importance of trees. This experience combined my interest in nature with meaningful service to the community.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Planting and maintaining trees required both effort and commitment. It was not only about planting the saplings but also ensuring they were watered and protected afterwards. I learned the importance of consistency because real environmental change takes time and long-term dedication.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
The plantation drive was a group effort. We divided responsibilities like digging, planting, watering, and adding protective layers around the saplings. By working together, the process became faster and more enjoyable. This experience showed me how teamwork can amplify impact and build a sense of shared responsibility toward the environment.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance
This activity directly connects to the global issue of climate change and the sustainability goal of Life on Land (SDG 15). Deforestation and loss of biodiversity are serious challenges worldwide, and by planting trees, I was able to make a small but meaningful contribution to addressing these issues. Using methods like Miyawaki farming, which helps create dense urban forests, made me realize how innovative approaches can help tackle environmental problems even in cities.
LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions
The plantation drive made me reflect on how human actions—such as urbanization and excessive resource use—harm ecosystems. By planting trees, I recognized the ethical responsibility we have to give back to nature and repair the damage caused by our choices. It encouraged me to make more eco-conscious decisions in my daily life, like reducing paper and plastic usage.
This CAS experience allowed me to connect my personal passion for nature with a global cause. I felt proud to contribute toward restoring green cover and combating climate change, even in a small way. The drive taught me that perseverance, collaboration, and ethical awareness are essential in creating lasting change.
