Pickleball tournament- Activity

With the growing popularity of pickleball, I decided to explore the sport further by participating in the “Play2BeatCancer” Tournament. This event not only allowed me to learn and practice a new sport but also gave me the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause, as all proceeds were dedicated to supporting cancer patients. While competing, I developed greater athletic ability, teamwork, and perseverance, and also gained valuable lessons in unity, sportsmanship, and community engagement.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

Since I was relatively new to pickleball, the tournament challenged me both physically and mentally. Playing in a competitive environment demanded stamina, focus, and strategic thinking, while also testing my ability to work in a team under pressure. Facing skilled and experienced players was initially intimidating, but it motivated me to push past my comfort zone.

Through perseverance, I improved my hand-eye coordination, decision-making under pressure, and athletic ability. I also developed resilience — reminding myself that my purpose extended beyond winning, as I was there to support a larger cause. This allowed me to stay motivated, adapt to challenges, and grow as a player and as a teammate

LO6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

Cancer is a worldwide health challenge that affects millions of people regardless of age, gender, or nationality. By participating in this tournament, I directly engaged with this issue, using sport as a means to contribute to fundraising efforts. Although my individual contribution may have been small, it symbolized how collective action can create meaningful impact on global health challenges.

Additionally, my participation helped spread awareness, as I engaged with fellow players and organizers to highlight the importance of supporting cancer patients. This experience reminded me that global issues can be addressed not only through large-scale initiatives but also through personal involvement and advocacy.

LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

My decision to participate in this tournament was guided by both social responsibility and ethical awareness. I recognized my privilege of having the resources and ability to join, and I chose to use that opportunity for a cause larger than myself. Beyond fundraising, I also upheld ethics in sports — demonstrating fair play, respect for opponents, and genuine sportsmanship.

Furthermore, I was mindful of ensuring that the money raised was going directly toward the intended purpose. This highlighted my understanding of accountability and transparency in community initiatives. Overall, I learned that ethical responsibility extends beyond participating — it also includes the way we act, the choices we make, and the fairness we uphold in every aspect of an activity.
