FRESHERS (creativity)

At the beginning of the academic year, our team organized a Fresher’s Dance — a lively and welcoming event aimed at helping new students settle into dp. The goal was to create an atmosphere where freshers could feel included, confident, and excited to begin their journey. From planning the decorations and music to coordinating performances and managing logistics, the event became a memorable experience for everyone involved.

LO1 – Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth

While organizing the event, I discovered my strength in communication and coordination. I was able to connect effectively with different groups — from the organizing committee and performers to the technical and decoration teams. However, I realized that I needed to improve my time management and delegation skills, as balancing multiple responsibilities became challenging closer to the event. This experience helped me reflect on how I can plan better and trust others with specific tasks.

LO2 – Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills

One major challenge we faced was managing last-minute changes in performances and logistics, such as sound system issues and performer absences. I had to stay calm, think on my feet, and learn problem-solving under pressure. I also developed event management skills — from budgeting and scheduling to handling unexpected delays. These challenges taught me how to stay adaptable and composed when things don’t go as planned.

LO3 – Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience

The Fresher’s Dance was initiated after a group discussion about how to make newcomers feel welcome. We collectively decided to organize the event from scratch — choosing the theme, booking the venue, managing funds, and promoting the event through posters and social media. I was actively involved in planning timelines, assigning roles, and ensuring each task was completed on time, which strengthened my ability to organize large-scale activities.

LO4 – Show Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experience

The entire process took several weeks of preparation, including late evenings of rehearsals and meetings. Despite academic workload and exhaustion, I remained fully committed to ensuring the event’s success. There were moments when it felt overwhelming, but my dedication to the team and the goal kept me motivated. Seeing the joy on the freshers’ faces during the event made every bit of effort worthwhile.

LO5 – Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively

This experience emphasized the importance of teamwork. Everyone contributed their unique skills — from choreography and music mixing to logistics and publicity. Working together taught us how to respect different perspectives, divide work effectively, and support one another during stressful moments. The collaboration made the event smoother, more creative, and ultimately more successful.

Reflection:

Organizing the Fresher’s Dance was not only fun but also a meaningful learning journey. It allowed me to strengthen my communication, leadership, and organizational skills while learning how to stay calm during challenges. Most importantly, it reminded me that teamwork and perseverance can transform an idea into a memorable experience that impacts others positively.
