CAS Experience: Farewell Decor Team Grade 12

Being a member of the Grade 12 Farewell Decor Team was a challenging and creative endeavor that challenged me to perform incoordination and think creatively. We aimed to make the venue lookstunning and remindful, providing the graduating class a heartfelt and pleasant farewell. Along the way, I developed different personal and teamwork skills, encountered issues, and learned how to approach these with a solution-focused attitude

LO1: Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth

Learning to concentrate on subtle details and brainstorm creative concepts to match the theme of the event was one of the most important takeaways from this experience. I realized that I was good at design ideation and creative thinking. I realized, though, that I neededto work on my time management as well. With more than one activity to accomplish within a limited timeframe, I understood the importanceof prioritizing tasks and delegating duties accordingly—abilities that I now see as being critical to group projects and working life.

LO3: Demonstrate How to Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience
Planning the farewell had multiple stages, ranging from brainstorming ideas for the design and procurement of materials, to planning setup schedules and making sure all items were theme-appropriate. I participated in early planning meetings and collaborated on envisioningthe bigger picture of how the decorations would be organized. Proactive initiative in creating task lists and suggesting ideas enabled us to streamline our work. Overall planning process showed me how important it is to be organized and proactive while working towardsbigger projects.

LO6: Demonstrate Engagement With Issues of Global Significance

We considered the wider issue of sustainability by making a conscious effort to reduce material waste. Wherever practicable, we reused materials from past events and made minimal new decor purchases. Such a decision showed consideration for environmental issues and dedication to environmentally conscious event planning. Every effort,no matter how small, counts toward the larger effort to minimize environmental footprint.

LO7: Recognize and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions

Ethics played a significant role in our decision-making. We made sure that our decoration decisions were fair, inclusive of and celebrating the whole graduating class without prejudice. We also made efforts to avoidwastage and think about how our actions affected the environment. Decision-making on this helped us stick to what was fair and responsible in how we carried out the project.

Conclusion
The Grade 12 Farewell Decor project provided the opportunity for me to be creative, initiate and work in collaboration as well as consider ethical and environmental obligations. It was rewarding to see how our work produced a lovely experience for the graduating class. This CAS experience enhanced my planning, critical thinking, and teamwork skills—abilities I will use in the future.
