As part of the FS Talent event organized at school, two of my friends and I collaborated to set up a fundraising stall to support Sattvic, an NGO based in Ahmedabad that works towards providing food and educational support to underprivileged communities. Our goal was to raise funds through a fun and engaging activity while contributing to a meaningful cause.
We decided to sell iced tea, brownies, and nachos at our stall, as we wanted to offer a mix of refreshing and popular snacks that would appeal to a wide range of students and teachers attending the event. In the days leading up to the event, we divided our responsibilities to ensure everything went smoothly. I took charge of organizing the ingredients, setting up the pricing, and helping with the design of the stall, while my friends handled the preparation of the food items and decoration.
On the day of the event, we arrived early to set up our table with colorful posters, price tags, and donation information about Sattvic. The experience was both exciting and challenging, especially as we had to manage the crowd, handle payments, and maintain hygiene at the same time. It required a lot of coordination and communication among us to ensure we didn’t run out of stock or keep customers waiting.
By the end of the event, we successfully sold out all our items and managed to raise a substantial amount, which we later donated to Sattvic. The representatives of the NGO appreciated our contribution, which made the entire experience very rewarding. It was fulfilling to know that our small effort could help make a positive impact on the lives of others.
Through this experience, I learned the importance of teamwork, planning, and adaptability. Managing a stall required us to make quick decisions, especially when demand was higher than expected. It also helped me develop a sense of responsibility and empathy towards social causes.
Learning Outcomes (LOs) Covered:
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth:
I realized that I am good at organizing and communicating with people, which helped in running the stall efficiently. However, I also noticed that I need to improve my time management skills when dealing with multiple tasks under pressure.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken and new skills developed in the process:
This experience was a challenge as it involved planning, budgeting, and selling within a limited time. It also helped me develop new skills such as handling cash transactions, marketing products, and managing logistics effectively.
LO3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience:
Our group showed initiative by coming up with the idea for the stall, coordinating tasks, purchasing supplies, and executing the plan smoothly. The planning process taught me how crucial it is to organize resources and roles clearly in a team project.
LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences:
We remained committed throughout the preparation and event day, even when faced with issues like running out of ingredients and managing long queues. Our teamwork and persistence ensured the stall’s success.
LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively:
Collaboration was key to our success. We divided tasks efficiently and supported each other throughout, which made the process enjoyable and less stressful.
LO6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance:
By raising funds for Sattvic, we contributed to addressing the issue of poverty and lack of access to basic resources such as food and education—challenges that are of global concern.
LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions:
We made sure our stall operated ethically by maintaining hygiene, being transparent about the cause, and ensuring that all profits were donated as promised. This experience deepened my understanding of ethical responsibility in community service.
The FS Talent Stall was an enriching and memorable CAS experience. It combined creativity, service, and teamwork in a practical way. Beyond just selling snacks, it was about using our skills and effort to make a difference for others. It taught me that even small initiatives, when done thoughtfully, can contribute to larger social change.
