Bake sale

In this CAS experience I took a part in a Bake Sale event in my school where I used to design posters to advertise it, which were very informational and creative. The bake sale was also to create awareness about sustainable consumption and promote sustainable decisions made among students. My posters were aimed at emphasizing the significance of lessening food waste, utilizing eco-friendly wrappings, and encouraging local products. This practice enabled me to exhibit LO2, LO3 and LO4. I was able to perform the learner profile attribute thinker. This most associates with SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

LO2 -Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

I faced various creative and technical issues that came up in designing the posters to promote the bake sale which assisted me to develop. I needed to balance out the ability to make the posters look attractive and make them produce the clear and compact information.Trying various layouts, color schemes, and slogans enabled me to improve my design and communication skills. I also got to know how to utilize my time well when working alone, and that enhanced my organization, problem-solving, and my confidence in general in the field of creativity.

LO3 -Initiate and plan a CAS experience

The development of posters of the bake sale demanded intelligent planning, research and designing. I started by brainstorming with the organizing team regarding the ideas in order to know what the event was and what we were trying to convey. Having obtained information, I made various layouts and tried the color scheme and slogans that would make the posters attractive to look at and read. I have also made the information focus on sustainability, including promoting reusable containers and conscious consumption. In the process, I was able to understand how to manage my time, work creatively and accurately at the same time and how to plan every step of the process, brainstorming to the final presentation. The experience of this planning taught me to become more organized and effective in solving problems as I was to get an opportunity to make the posters interesting and educational.

LO4 -Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

The process of poster making in which I was fully dedicated in as I went from the brainstorming stage to the final display. My weaknesses included having pressure of time, having to make changes to the design on several occasions, and making sure that the posters were relevant to the theme of the event. I remained dedicated and determined to work on high quality work despite these challenges. My perseverance was evident in my diligence and determination because I kept on improving my designs in order to have a desirable final production to use in the bake sale event.

As a Thinker, I applied the creativity and critical thinking in developing posters that possessed a means of conveying environmental message in an effective and understandable manner. I considered the way in which the visual design can influence the taste of individuals and make sure that they get to know about the issues of the world, like sustainability. I have also understood that even the little steps such as a well-designed poster can facilitate responsible behavior and support SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
