In this CAS experience, I was engaged in Kalakriti, an art-related event at my school, which was a combination of creativity and social consciousness. In this event I designed posters written in Hindi on the theme of Crime and with effective slogans that spread awareness on importance of justice, being safe and good citizens. Such posters were placed in the street plays about crime held in school to inform and capture the attention of the viewers. By doing so, I displayed LO3 -Initiate and plan a CAS experience and LO6 -Engagement with issues of global significance, as well as the Thinker learner profile quality and the SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
LO3 -Initiate and plan a CAS experience
In the development of the posters it had to be properly planned and prepared. I started by doing a search on various forms of crimes and how they affect the society, particularly the students and the communities. Then, I brainstormed on slogans in Hindi which would be easy and simple but strong enough and catchy to draw attention and give a strong message. I calculated my poster layouts – what visuals, colors, and words to use to match up the themes of the street plays. This interactivity allowed me to acquire an organization and creativity skill and taught me toapply art in order to communicate and advocate.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance
This experience provided me with an opportunity to work with a problem of worldwide concern crime and justice. The awareness that was created by visual art helped me to take a moment and consider the extent to which these issues impact societies across the globe and the importance of spreading knowledge in making communities safer. I was able to foster peace, equality, and justice by being a part of this event, which directly contributed to SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
Performing the learner profile attribute Thinker, creativity and critical thinking were used to create meaningful posters that would encourage people to think and take action. The experience enhanced my idea of how art and ideas can make a difference. In general, Kalakriti enabled me to mingle art with social accountability baring my abilities to deliver a significant message and endorse a cause that is significant to the world.
