CAS Project – Grade 12 Last Day Planning

For my CAS project, I chose to take on the responsibility of planning the Grade 12 Last Day. My purpose in selecting this project was to ensure that students had a memorable last day at school, celebrating their time with friends, peers, and staff. I wanted to create a meaningful and joyful experience that would allow everyone to look back with fond memories.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

During the task, I learned that one of my strong points is my capacity for creativity and event planning. I was able to come up with concepts that reflected the spirit of our grade while also being consistent with what my peers would like. But I also pointed out areas that needed work, like time management and delegation. I found that balancing multiple responsibilities requires better communication and prioritization.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

There were difficulties in the planning process. My patience and flexibility were put to the test when managing last-minute modifications, securing resources, and coordinating with other organizations. These difficulties helped me to improve my ability to negotiate, lead a team, and solve problems under pressure.

LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience

I had to take initiative throughout this process, from laying out the strategy to delegating tasks to others. I was responsible for overseeing the event’s general plan, making sure that every little detail was taken care of to produce a seamless experience. I learned the value of early planning and methodical implementation from the project.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

Despite obstacles such as conflicting ideas or limited time, I remained committed to the project until the end. My perseverance ensured that the final event ran smoothly, and I did not allow setbacks to stop the momentum of our planning.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

An essential component of this effort was teamwork. When our opinions diverged, my peers and I had to listen to one another and come to agreements. I learned from this that team decision-making not only enhances the caliber of the finished product but also fortifies the ties among teammates.

LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance

While this project was centered on our school, it connected to the universal importance of community and celebrating milestones. Globally, marking transitions such as graduation is significant because it recognizes growth, achievements, and the value of human connection. By planning this event, I engaged in fostering a sense of belonging and collective identity, which is an issue that resonates across cultures.

LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Throughout the project, I was mindful of the ethical implications of our choices—ensuring inclusivity so that all students felt represented and valued, and being considerate of the school’s rules and cultural sensitivities. This taught me that even small decisions, such as activity choices or language used in speeches, can have ethical weight.

Learner Profile Attributes

This CAS experience helped me grow as both a critical thinker and a communicator. As a critical thinker, I evaluated different options and made balanced decisions that served the collective good. As a communicator, I ensured clear dialogue with peers, staff, and coordinators to maintain transparency and inclusivity.

Conclusion

Overall, the Grade 12 Last Day Planning project was a highly rewarding CAS experience. It pushed me to step out of my comfort zone, manage challenges, and collaborate meaningfully with others. I developed a stronger sense of responsibility, leadership, and empathy. Most importantly, I was able to contribute to creating a special moment for my peers that they will remember beyond school, which gives me a sense of pride and fulfillment.
