Play2BeatCancer

Taking part in the Play2BeatCancer pickleball tournament was a unique and meaningful CAS experience for me. While it began as a fun sports activity, I soon realised that it carried a much deeper purpose, raising funds to support cancer patients’ treatments. This initiative, hosted by one of my peers, combined physical activity with a social cause, making it a powerful way of giving back to the community.

LO2:Taking on Challenges and Building New Skills
As someone not very experienced in pickleball, participating in the tournament itself was a challenge. I had to push myself physically, learn new techniques quickly, and adapt my strategies against different opponents. Beyond the sport, engaging with new people in a competitive yet friendly environment strengthened my communication and confidence. These challenges not only improved my sporting ability but also enhanced my social skills, resilience, and adaptability.

LO6:Engagement with Issues of Global Significance
The heart of this activity lay in its cause – supporting cancer patients. Cancer remains one of the most pressing global health issues, affecting millions of lives across the world. By participating in this tournament, I contributed to a collective effort to support patients who often go unseen or underfunded. This experience reminded me that even small contributions, when pooled together, can create meaningful impact. It was inspiring to see how sports could be used as a medium to raise awareness and funds for such a vital issue.

LO7:Ethics of Choices and Actions
This activity also made me reflect on the ethical importance of how we use our time and abilities. Choosing to take part in Play2BeatCancer wasn’t just about playing a game – it was about supporting a noble cause and recognising the privilege I have compared to those struggling with illnesses. By engaging in this event, I became more mindful of the impact of my actions and the responsibility I hold as a member of society to contribute positively whenever possible.
