During our school’s annual night-out with the Grade 11 and 12 students, I participated in a football tournament that lasted from 11 PM to 4 AM. The matches were played under floodlights, creating a unique and exciting atmosphere. Teams were mixed across grades, so I had the opportunity to play alongside and against senior students, which was both challenging and fun. Despite the late-night setting, the energy on the field remained high, and every match demanded focus, teamwork, and endurance.
LO1 – Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth
This tournament helped me realize my strengths in quick decision-making and adaptability on the field. Playing with new teammates meant I had to adjust my style of play to complement theirs. I also recognized that my stamina could be improved, especially in the cold weather. I also had to match the pace of my teammates, which was rather aggressive and quick. There were some conflicts within the match, which is typical in a team sport, but it ended up being pretty aggressive and physical, which is why the tournament had to be dissolved earlier than it was supposed to.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Playing continuously at night presented the challenge of bearing the cold weather, as it was late January. However, I was eventually able to adapt to it once my body started getting warmer due to the physical exercise. Another challenge I faced was with the team work, because there was a lack of coordination due to playing with a new team. Despite, we had to improvise and work on our coordination in the game.
LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Despite being on hiatus in football for months, I took up this experience to have another and the last game with my former teammates (even though the players were divided across different teams). I was afraid in the beginning, as I thought I lost my touch in the game. But I was able to eventually get back on my feet and match everyone’s pace. Overall, this experience was great for me, as I could dabble a bit again with my old friends. Also, it was refreshing playing football again after a long time.
