PS Badminton_Activity

As part of my PS, I chose badminton as my CAS Activity. I have always been active in athletics and skating, but badminton gave me a new challenge that tested not only my stamina and reflexes but also my ability to think strategically. Over the past few months, consistent practice in school has helped me identify my strengths, work on my weaknesses, and develop discipline through regular training.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth:

Through school badminton sessions, I discovered that my stamina, agility, and quick reflexes were strong assets, carried over from my background in athletics. These strengths helped me move efficiently across the court and stay alert during fast rallies. However, I also realized I needed growth in shot accuracy, especially backhand clears and smashes, which were difficult to execute consistently. By reflecting on these strengths and weaknesses during practice, I became more aware of my abilities and set clear goals for improvement.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills:

Badminton in the PS program pushed me to face challenges that were unfamiliar to me. One of the biggest challenges was developing proper footwork, as moving quickly in different directions while staying balanced was not easy at first. Another challenge was shot control during longer rallies, where I often lost focus or misjudged the shuttle. With persistence, I was able to develop new skills such as accurate drop shots, better timing for smashes, and improved control over game pace. This growth showed me how challenges are opportunities to build resilience and adaptability.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience:

Playing badminton regularly during school’s PS sessions required dedication and consistency. There were times when progress felt slow, but I stayed committed to training and improving my game. My perseverance was evident in the way I kept practicing the same skills repeatedly until I saw improvement. This commitment not only helped me improve in badminton but also reinforced the importance of discipline in sports and academics alike.

LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively:

In doubles badminton during PS, I experienced the value of teamwork and collaboration. Success in doubles depended on communication, trust, and understanding between partners. I learned to support my teammate by covering spaces, adjusting my strategy, and maintaining coordination. This collaborative aspect made me realize how working with others strengthens not just performance but also interpersonal skills, which are valuable beyond sports.
