This event was both challenging and rewarding, allowing me to test my physical limits, develop new skills, and reflect on my personal growth. I focused on three Learning Outcomes: LO1 – Identifying strengths and areas for growth, LO2 – Demonstrating that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills, and LO4 – Showing commitment and perseverance. Completing the run was a fulfilling experience that highlighted the importance of resilience, preparation, and determination.
LO1: Identifying Strengths and Developing Areas for Growth
Before the run, I felt confident in my endurance, having participated in shorter runs and regular fitness routines. However, the 5km cross-country course highlighted areas for improvement, such as pacing, energy management, and maintaining form over uneven terrain. I also realized the importance of preparation for external factors like weather and hydration, which significantly affected performance. By reflecting on these areas, I can now enhance my fitness routine and approach future challenges more strategically.
LO2: Demonstrate that Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills
The run presented unique challenges, including hilly sections and fatigue. To overcome them, I developed new skills such as strategic pacing, controlled breathing, and mental focus to push through difficult moments. Encouraging fellow participants and working alongside others reinforced teamwork and communication skills, which helped me remain motivated and perform better. These skills are not only useful for physical activities but also in managing challenges in other areas of life.
LO4: Show Commitment to and Perseverance in CAS Experiences
During the run, I faced moments of tiredness and self-doubt, but I reminded myself of the effort I had put into training. Finishing the 5 km course was immensely satisfying, symbolizing my perseverance and commitment to the activity. This experience taught me that consistent effort and determination can help overcome even demanding challenges, inspiring both personal growth and a sense of shared accomplishment with others.

The cross-country run was more than just a physical activity—it was an opportunity for self-discovery, resilience, and teamwork. By reflecting on my strengths, tackling challenges, and demonstrating perseverance, I gained a deeper appreciation for dedication, preparation, and the value of maintaining an active lifestyle.
