CAS Project – Global Odyssey

Being in the core team at my school’s prestigious event, Global Odyssey, was both a privilege and a challenge. I was responsible for organizing regular practice sessions, creating schedules for pull-out slots, maintaining an inventory of resources and equipment, and ensuring that our band’s musical showcases ran smoothly on the day of the event. This role required me to step out of my comfort zone and put my leadership, planning, and teamwork skills to the test.

LO 1 :  Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.

One of the most significant aspects of this experience was recognizing my own strengths and areas for personal growth. I discovered that I am highly organized and can keep track of multiple moving parts, such as coordinating schedules and ensuring all instruments were accounted for. At the same time, I noticed that I sometimes struggled with patience when practice sessions did not go as planned. This realization encouraged me to work on being more understanding and adaptable, especially when working with peers who had different skill levels and commitments.

LO 2 : Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

This project also demonstrated that I had undertaken challenges and developed new skills in the process. Leading a group of talented musicians was unfamiliar to me—I had never before been the one setting the rhythm not only musically, but organizationally. It was a challenge to balance my own academic workload with the time and energy needed to prepare the band. Over time, I developed better time management, communication, and problem-solving skills, which I know will serve me well in future leadership roles.

LO 3 : Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

Finally, this experience allowed me to show how I can initiate and plan a CAS experience. From the very beginning, I had to design a structured plan to ensure everything would run smoothly. I created a schedule of rehearsals, managed pull-out slots in coordination with teachers, and prepared a detailed list of resources and equipment. On the event day, this preparation paid off, as the performances flowed without major disruptions. Taking the initiative to organize and plan every step helped me see the importance of foresight and structured execution in leadership roles.
