LO 1 – Identify own strengths and areas for growth
Throughout this journey, I became more aware of both my abilities and the areas I needed to improve. I discovered that I adapt well to unfamiliar surroundings and can collaborate smoothly with my peers. This strength was especially useful when interacting with classmates and the residents of Ambapani. At the same time, I recognized that stepping out of my comfort zone is essential. For example, the mud lippin activity, which required working with cow dung, was a challenge due to the strong odor and discomfort. However, pushing myself to complete it alongside my peers gave me a sense of accomplishment and helped me build stronger connections with others.
LO 2 – Undertake challenges and develop new skills
The experience was full of challenges, both physical and emotional. Adjusting to a rural environment where resources were limited required patience and resilience. Trekking activities tested my stamina, while mud lippin tested my mindset and perseverance. By confronting these challenges, I developed new skills such as problem-solving, resilience, and patience. These will continue to benefit me in future collaborative and service-based projects.
LO 4 – Commitment and perseverance
The trip required steady effort and dedication across several tasks, such as adventure activities and community clean-up. While the tasks initially appeared daunting, consistent teamwork and persistence enabled us to complete them successfully. Activities like litter collection in the hot sun reinforced the importance of resilience and taught me that consistent small actions can make a meaningful difference.
LO 5 – Collaborative skills
Almost every activity involved cooperation. I found that dividing responsibilities based on individual strengths helped us achieve tasks more effectively. Through this, I realized that teamwork not only improves outcomes but also builds stronger relationships within a group. The trip highlighted the importance of shared responsibility in both service and daily life.
LO 6 – Engagement with global issues
This experience connected directly to broader global concerns such as sustainability and environmental responsibility. Cleaning the village streets made me realize the importance of proper waste management and its impact on communities. Mud lippin further demonstrated how eco-friendly building methods can reduce environmental strain by using sustainable local resources. These activities deepened my understanding of sustainability and its relevance worldwide.
LO 7 – Ethics of choices and actions
While participating in service activities, such as serving food to children or assisting villagers with mud lippin, I made sure to respect local traditions and practices. Instead of imposing my own way of working, I learned to adapt to their methods. This reflection on ethical responsibility made me more conscious of how my daily actions—such as consumption and waste—affect others and the environment.
Conclusion
The Rural Immersion Trip to Ambapani was an enriching and transformative experience. It exposed me to the challenges of rural life while allowing me to contribute to the community in meaningful ways. I improved my communication and social skills, became more adaptable, and learned the value of collaboration and sustainability. Most importantly, I identified my strengths and weaknesses, which will guide me in future service projects and personal growth.
