As part of my CAS experience, I participated in Global Odyssey 5.0, the fifth edition of our school’s student-led business and economics event. This high-energy platform allowed students to conceptualize and manage their own ventures, simulating real-world business environments across diverse sectors such as fashion, food, technology, and sustainability.
I contributed in two key roles: as part of the decor team, I helped design visual elements that captured the event’s bold, entrepreneurial spirit; and as a co-owner of a fashion stall, I gained hands-on experience in branding, product curation, customer interaction, and sales. Balancing the creative and commercial aspects of the event challenged me to think on my feet, adapt quickly, and collaborate effectively in a dynamic environment.
Global Odyssey 5.0 wasn’t just about business, it was a chance to take initiative, manage real responsibilities, and build something impactful from the ground up.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Being involved in both the decor team and running a fashion stall during Global Odyssey helped me recognize a few key strengths. I found that I’m good at visual coordination—whether it was stall layout or overall event decor, I could easily picture how things would look and work in a physical space. I also enjoyed the customer-facing aspect of the stall, where communication and adaptability came into play.
At the same time, I noticed a few areas for growth. Handling two roles meant my time was often split, and I realized I need to get better at prioritizing and pacing myself. There were moments where I underestimated how long things would take or how much last-minute work would come up. This experience made me more aware of how I function under pressure and where I can improve going forward.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Global Odyssey wasn’t something we could just prepare for overnight it took consistent effort over several weeks, from ideation and planning to execution. Balancing decor responsibilities with running a stall meant I had to stay committed to both roles, even when things got stressful or exhausting.
There were definitely moments when things didn’t go to plan—stall supplies arriving late, minor decor mismatches, or last-minute layout changes but I kept showing up, adjusting, and doing what was needed. Staying fully involved throughout the process helped me realize that commitment isn’t just about the final outcome; it’s also about staying reliable and focused during the messy, in-between parts.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Collaboration was at the heart of Global Odyssey. Whether it was brainstorming design concepts with the decor team or managing responsibilities with my stall partner, nothing would’ve come together without teamwork. We had to constantly communicate, divide work fairly, and make decisions as a group—sometimes quickly and under pressure.
What I appreciated most was how everyone brought different strengths to the table. Some were great at visuals, others at logistics or promotion. Working together not only made things more efficient but also more enjoyable. It reminded me that collaboration isn’t about agreeing on everything—it’s about respecting ideas, adapting, and supporting each other to make the final outcome stronger.
LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions
While running a stall, I became more aware of the ethical side of entrepreneurship. We had to consider how we priced our products, how we presented them, and how we interacted with customers. It was important to ensure that what we were selling was not misleading and that we were being respectful and inclusive in how we marketed it.
Even with decor, we had to be conscious of how our designs reflected the event theme and didn’t accidentally include anything culturally insensitive or inappropriate. These small choices mattered because they impacted how the event was perceived by others. This experience made me more mindful of how ethical thinking plays a role in even the most creative and fast-paced settings
All in all, Global Odyssey was the one event that truly brought the entire grade together. It wasn’t just about running stalls or decorating spaces it was about collaboration, creativity, and stepping into real responsibility. Being involved in both the decor team and the fashion sector gave me a deeper understanding of what it means to work toward a shared vision while also managing individual roles.
From learning how to adapt under pressure to thinking ethically and communicating effectively, this experience pushed me in more ways than I expected. It blended business, design, teamwork, and personal growth all in one high-energy, student-led platform. Looking back, Global Odyssey wasn’t just a highlight of the year, it was one of the most formative CAS experiences I’ve had so far.
