Bal mela (service)

Bal mela – service

Volunteering at Bal Mela was an incredible experience where I had the opportunity to engage with underprivileged children and introduce them to the joy of football. As part of my CAS service experience,I instructed them on how to shoot a football while instilling in them confidence, coordination, and teamwork. This experience was more than just a sports session; it was a case of making a difference in the name of inclusivity, perseverance, and ethical responsibility.

LO4: Perseverance and Commitment

Teaching football to children who had never played before was, on one hand, thrilling and fun but, on the other, tough and really challenging. In fact, a lot of them couldn’t grasp the simplest of techniques, making it a trial of patience and hard work for me. I had to figure out a million ways to make learning fun while keeping them interested. In spite of all these challenges, I remained committed to keeping an encouraging spirit alive among each child and making it a grand fun and rewarding experience for all.

LO6: Engagement with Issues of Global Significance

This whole experience has put a spotlight on the need for an equal chance at sports. Many kids from unprivileged communities have no access to structured training that could otherwise allow them to explore and develop their talents. Through engagements with the children by football. I contributed to promoting physical well-being, inclusivity, and social development, all of which align with global goals like SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).

LO7: Recognizing Ethics in Choices and Actions

As a volunteer, I had a responsibility to ensure fairness, respect, and inclusivity in my teaching approach. I treated every child equally, encouraged teamwork, and emphasized the importance of discipline and sportsmanship. Recognizing that my actions could shape their perception of sports, I made ethical choices that fostered a positive and supportive learning environment.

Bal Mela was more than just a volunteering experience—it was an opportunity to empower and inspire children through sports. It reinforced my belief in using my skills to create a positive impact and strengthened my sense of responsibility, perseverance, and ethical awareness. This experience has motivated me to continue contributing to similar initiatives, ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has the chance to learn, grow, and enjoy the power of sports.
