As part of my creativity, I selected Event Photographer working alongside two of my colleagues, Abhishek and Preyasi, covering DP events held throughout the year, where we captured photos with both camera and phone. The pictures were categorised and uploaded after every event, and some were even put on the school’s social media handle.
Events Covered:
FS Got Talent
Independence Day Celebration
Kalakriti Dance and Drama competition
Community Service Events
Table Tennis Inter School competition
Trajectory event
FSMUN 11.0
Lit Fest
Gymnastics Interschool
Learning Outcomes
LO 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I chose this project because of my passion for photography, and it gave me the perfect platform to use my existing knowledge. I experimented with various camera shots and angles in different lighting to capture photos. I even developed my weaknesses into strengths, such as balancing camera settings in a short span of time. For example, during the Kalakriti dance event, I quickly adapted and changed camera settings to capture fast-paced dances.
LO 6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
The nature of photography itself associates it with global issues involving power regarding representation, diversity, and ethics of media. While covering an event, I somehow became conscious of the fact that images affect perceptions and, in turn, attitudes. I saw to it that I would always respect these moments by focusing on the cultural diversity and achievements of students rather than on stereotypes. I also learned about consent and made sure that the participants carried out giving their consent so that they felt comfortable being photographed. This instance throughout time has given me more insight into how visual representation can back inclusion and positive social representation.
LO 7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
The experience itself involved ethical decision-making. Never were any photographs taken without first asking for permission; especially for images of minors, the photographs were not taken in a way that could be considered intrusive or disrespectful. I would think of how captions or framing can say things that may never have happened and decided to record moments of celebration and togetherness. This gave me the understanding that creativity also entails responsibility-moral choices that must serve to protect the dignity of those whose stories we share.
Creative experience in event photography developed technical skills and interpersonal skills for me. Identifying my strengths and weaknesses in creativity was possible through this experience-observing emotions was one strength; lighting needed improvement and I could have edited the photos to develop a new skill. Most important is how it deepened my grasp of an influential creative force and how to be ethically conscious when sharing images.” This experience linked me to bigger issues concerning representation and responsibility and what it means to be creative in a respectful and mindful way.
