Suits & Statutes – Project

My CAS project, Suits & Statutes, has been one of the most rewarding and meaningful experiences of my high school journey. As president of the law club, I treated it as a true passion project where I could channel my interest in law, justice, and governance into something bigger than myself. I wanted to create a space where younger students could explore the world of legal studies in a way that felt engaging and approachable. Running sessions on landmark cases, organizing mock trials, and facilitating debates gave me the chance to not only share knowledge but also see students grow in confidence, critical thinking, and public speaking. What made it even more fulfilling was seeing their enthusiasm carry over outside the club meetings, and the club’s Instagram account—Suits & Statutes—reached more than 100 followers, showing that our message about law and justice resonated beyond just the classroom. Here is a video reflection of my experience:

Leading this project connected me to every CAS learning outcome in a very real way. I identified my strengths in communication, research, and leadership, while also recognizing areas to grow, especially in simplifying complex legal concepts for peers who were new to them (LO1). There were many challenges—balancing planning with academics, keeping members engaged week after week, and ensuring inclusivity—but overcoming them helped me develop new organizational and leadership skills (LO2). Starting the club itself was a demonstration of initiative, from planning session topics to managing the social media account and scheduling events (LO3). Perseverance was key, because running a club consistently over time required commitment even when other responsibilities piled up (LO4). Collaboration was at the heart of Suits & Statutes, as working with fellow members to prepare mock trials or share research reminded me that teamwork makes ideas stronger and more creative (LO5). At its core, this project engaged with issues of global significance—justice, governance, and the rule of law are central to all societies—and through our discussions I became more aware of how young people can contribute to these global conversations (LO6). Finally, leading a law club forced me to think critically about the ethics of both law and leadership, ensuring that discussions were fair, inclusive, and respectful, and reflecting on how justice is not just about rules but about values (LO7). On a broader scale, this project also connects with the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by spreading awareness about justice and the rule of law, and SDG 4 (Quality Education) by creating a platform where students could learn outside the classroom. Looking back, Suits & Statutes wasn’t just a club, but a community I helped build, one that let me pursue my passion while also empowering others to think critically about the world we live in.
