Literature Fest

Creativity

As part of my CAS experience, I helped organize my school’s Literature Fest. I had two roles: to contribute to ideas for what games to include across the fest, and to run a booth for Tongue Twisters on the event days.

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

I discovered a clear strength in coming up with creative game ideas and tailoring concepts to fit different audiences. At the same time, I realized a growth area: sustaining the social energy for interaction with participants throughout the day was draining. This helped me recognize I need strategies to manage social energy during long events (short breaks, rotating roles).

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

Catering to such a wide audience (Kindergarten–12) was a genuine challenge. I learned to adapt instructions, pacing, and difficulty on the spot (such as simplifying for younger students and raising the challenge for older ones). Running the Tongue Twisters booth pushed me to communicate clearly, think quickly, and keep the line moving while keeping participants engaged.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

I helped decide which games to include and planned the Tongue Twisters booth. That meant aligning the activity with the fest’s objectives, preparing content (words/phrases and a simple slideshow), and organizing materials and flow so younger students had easier options while older students got tougher ones. We coordinated setup, signage, and timing so the booth could handle fluctuating crowds smoothly.

LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Preparation required missing some subject slots and coming to school early. I stayed committed by finishing tasks on time and then catching up on classwork afterward. On the fest days, I kept the booth running even when there was too much crowd or even if I was too tired, which reinforced the value of staying consistent from planning through execution.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

My pair and I divided responsibilities by strength: he handled design/drawing since I’m not very good at it, while I prepared content and the slideshow and guided what needed to be written. Clear communication made our work easier. The experience showed me how effective collaboration elevates the final outcome.

Conclusion

The Literature Fest combined creativity, planning, and teamwork. I strengthened my ability to design engaging activities as per age groups, manage a booth, and collaborate by playing to team strengths. Most importantly, I learned how to balance energy and responsibilities across preparation and event days (skills which I can carry into future projects).
