FSMUN 10.0- Creativity

Being the Under-Secretary General for FSMUN 10.0 was one of the most challenging yet rewarding leadership experiences I have undertaken. The role required me to step beyond just organizing an event, it demanded creativity, problem-solving, and the ability to lead and collaborate with a large and diverse team. Through the process, I not only strengthened my existing skills but also discovered areas for growth, learned to adapt in the face of challenges, and engaged deeply with globally significant issues. FSMUN 10.0 became a journey of perseverance, teamwork, and self-reflection, aligning closely with the CAS learning outcomes.

LO1 – Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth
Serving as the Under-Secretary General allowed me to recognize my organizational and leadership strengths, particularly in managing diverse committees and ensuring smooth coordination between directors and chairs. At the same time, I realized the need to further refine my delegation skills, sometimes I tried to handle multiple responsibilities myself instead of trusting my team fully. This experience helped me identify the importance of balancing control with trust to improve overall efficiency.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
A major challenge was handling last-minute logistical setbacks and ensuring that participants had a seamless MUN experience despite them. I developed crisis-management skills, becoming more adaptable and confident in problem-solving under pressure. Moreover, I improved my public speaking and negotiation skills while coordinating between secretariat members and addressing delegates.

LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Months of preparation, long meetings, and continuous follow-ups tested my perseverance. Despite academic and personal commitments, I consistently prioritized FSMUN, demonstrating commitment to the process. Seeing the event’s success and the learning it offered to participants was proof that perseverance pays off.

LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
FSMUN 10.0 was not a one-person effort but a collaborative project where each member of the secretariat played a vital role. I learned to value team input, work with individuals of different working styles, and rely on collective brainstorming for solutions. The collaboration fostered stronger relationships, encouraged creativity, and ultimately ensured the success of the conference.

LO6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
FSMUN was centered around pressing international issues, from climate change to human rights violations. As Under-Secretary General, I ensured that these topics were researched, discussed, and debated by delegates, promoting awareness of global challenges. By facilitating these discussions, I engaged directly with issues of global significance, while also empowering younger delegates to think critically about their role in shaping solutions.
