Ultimate Frisbee Tournament – Activity

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Through this activity, I recognized that my strengths lay in handling and marking opponents during defense. However, I initially struggled with consistency in forehand throws and long-distance hucks. I made a conscious effort to attend extra drills and sought feedback from my coach and senior players to improve these areas. Over time, I saw noticeable improvement, especially in my confidence and accuracy while handling the disc under pressure.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

Ultimate Frisbee was a physically demanding sport that required a steep learning curve. Initially, I found it difficult to play for long durations without fatigue. To overcome this, I worked on my endurance through additional cardio workouts. Learning different formations like horizontal stack and zone defense also challenged my tactical understanding of the game, which I eventually grasped with repeated exposure and match experience.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

Although the sport was coach led, I actively contributed to planning practice sessions when our coach was unavailable. I helped coordinate warm-up routines, set up throwing drills, and maintained attendance and match statistics. Before the tournament, I created a shared document for our team to track progress and distribute roles for match days, including hydration, equipment checklists, and warm-up leaders.

LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Ultimate Frisbee required consistency in attendance and effort, even during exam weeks or harsh weather. I showed up for every session, including early morning fitness runs and evening scrimmages. Despite injuries such as a minor ankle sprain, I remained involved by participating in strategy discussions and supporting teammates from the sidelines until I could return to the field.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

This sport is entirely team based. Success in Ultimate Frisbee relies heavily on communication, trust, and mutual understanding. I learned to adapt to various playing styles and contributed to team huddles where we reflected on plays and strategized for upcoming points. The bond we developed translated into better in game chemistry and sportsmanship both on and off the field

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Ultimate Frisbee places a strong emphasis on integrity, as there are no referees and players call their own fouls. This required me to be honest, objective, and fair in emotionally charged situations. I learned to resolve conflicts respectfully and realized the importance of upholding ethical behavior over winning at all costs. In one match, I retracted a contested call after recognizing that I had misjudged it this moment reinforced my belief in playing with honor.

Conclusion

This CAS experience taught me more than just the techniques of a sport It challenged my physical and mental limits, strengthened my sense of responsibility, and deepened my appreciation for teamwork and fairness. Ultimate Frisbee has become more than an activity for me; it has shaped my discipline, resilience, and values, which I will carry forward in both sports and life.
