Clean Up Drive – Service

Reflection:

The clean-up drive near the lake was both physically and mentally demanding. The area was heavily polluted with plastic, glass, and general waste. As a group, we aimed to restore a natural public space and bring attention to environmental negligence.

  • LO4 – Show commitment and perseverance in CAS experiences
The clean-up lasted several hours under the sun and required gloves, bags, and a lot of physical effort. Even when it became tiring and unpleasant, I pushed myself to continue, knowing that every bit helped. That persistence paid off when we saw visible change.
  • LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively Cleaning such a large area wouldn’t have been possible without coordination. We divided tasks some handled dry waste, others wet; some people carried the trash bags while others focused on specific waste clusters. Working with peers allowed us to cover more ground and share responsibilities efficiently. Simple teamwork like holding bags open for others, warning each other about sharp objects, or motivating those who were tired—made the process smoother and more effective. It also created a sense of community and shared purpose
  • LO6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Pollution and environmental degradation are global problems, but this experience made me realize how much starts locally. It reinforced my understanding of climate change, water pollution, and the importance of citizen-led action. I now feel more responsible for how I treat public spaces.
  • LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
I reflected on how daily lifestyle choices like using single-use plastics or littering can harm ecosystems. This experience made me more mindful of waste generation and responsible consumption. I now carry reusable items more often and educate others when I can.
