FSMUN

LO1: Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth

Participating in FSMUN helped me understand my own abilities better. I realized I’m quite comfortable speaking in front of groups and responding quickly during high-pressure moments — something I hadn’t fully noticed before. At the same time, I became aware that I struggle with delegation. I often tried to take on too many tasks myself instead of trusting my team. This experience helped me reflect on those habits and begin working toward improving them. While organizing or participating in FSMUN, you likely discovered personal strengths — such as public speaking, researching, or designing logistics. You may also have realized areas needing growth (e.g. time management or confidence), which helped shape your goals.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

Organizing FSMUN came with a lot of unexpected challenges. From sudden speaker cancellations to miscommunication between teams, things didn’t always go smoothly. But dealing with those situations forced me to adapt. I learned how to communicate more clearly, stay calm when plans changed, and even problem-solve on the spot. I now feel more confident in handling stress and unexpected changes in future events.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

From the start, FSMUN required a lot of planning and initiative. As part of the secretariat, we had to set up timelines, assign roles, follow up on progress, and ensure that every committee was prepared. This was the first time I’d been part of planning something at this scale, and it taught me how important it is to have structure, deadlines, and regular communication when working on a long-term project.

LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

There were several moments when I felt drained or overwhelmed, especially when schoolwork started piling up at the same time. But I stuck with it, attending every meeting and putting in the hours needed to make the event a success. Even during weekends or after long school days, I kept showing up. FSMUN taught me that perseverance really does pay off, and the satisfaction on the final day made all the effort worth it.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

FSMUN was a team effort in every way. Whether it was coordinating logistics, designing posters, or moderating committees, nothing would have worked without good collaboration. I learned that listening to others, trusting their abilities, and keeping communication open is key. When we faced last-minute issues, it was our teamwork that got us through — people stepped up, shared the load, and supported one another without hesitation.

LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

MUN topics revolve around global challenges — things like climate change, human rights, and international conflict. Preparing for these debates deepened my understanding of how interconnected the world really is. I researched situations I’d never paid much attention to before, and by the end, I felt far more aware of the real-world implications behind the topics we debated. It made me more conscious of the world beyond my immediate surroundings.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Moderating debates and helping organize FSMUN also made me think about ethics — both in the issues we discussed and how we treated participants. As a chairperson, I had to remain unbiased, give everyone a chance to speak, and handle disagreements respectfully. It also made me reflect on how the actions we take as individuals — even small ones — can reflect broader values like fairness, inclusion, and responsibility.
