The International University Fair held on 22nd November 2024 was a valuable CAS experience for me. As a volunteer, I was assigned the role of crowd management, ensuring the smooth flow of students and university representatives throughout the event. My responsibilities included regulating movement, preventing overcrowding at stalls, and ensuring that every student had the opportunity to interact with university representatives without disruption. This role required quick decision-making, effective communication, and organizational skills to maintain order and enhance the overall experience for attendees. It was a rewarding experience, as I was able to contribute to the event’s success while developing essential leadership and problem-solving skills.
LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
During the University Fair, my role involved crowd management and assisting university representatives with setup. In this position, I had to make ethical decisions regarding fairness, accessibility, and professionalism to ensure the event was a smooth and inclusive experience for all students. One of the key ethical considerations was ensuring that every student had an equal opportunity to interact with university representatives. Since some booths were more crowded than others, I had to regulate the flow of students and encourage them to visit multiple stalls rather than letting a few individuals monopolize the time of university representatives. This required me to act impartially and assertively, balancing the interests of both the students and the representatives. Another ethical aspect was professionalism and responsibility. As a student representative assisting with the event, I had to maintain a respectful and helpful demeanor while ensuring that students followed event guidelines. Additionally, while helping the décor team, I had to make ethical choices regarding the use of materials and ensure that nothing was wasted or misused. By taking these factors into account, I developed a deeper understanding of the importance of fairness, responsibility, and ethical decision-making in event management. This experience reinforced my ability to handle situations with integrity, ensuring that my actions had a positive and equitable impact on everyone attending the fair.
Overall, participating in the University Fair as a crowd management volunteer was a highly enriching experience. It allowed me to develop essential leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills while ensuring a smooth and organized event. Navigating ethical considerations such as fairness, accessibility, and professionalism further deepened my understanding of responsible decision-making. This experience not only strengthened my ability to handle high-pressure situations with integrity but also reinforced the importance of creating an inclusive and efficient environment for all attendees.
