I visited KG farm to explore the Miyawaki farming technique, which is a method that creates dense and short forests in a small period of time, by imitating the variations that exist in actual forests. I participated in this experience by taking 7-8 crops, arranging them in a line and by adding soil, transplanting them. This hands-on experience helped me deepen my understanding on the subject. Through this CAS experience, I explored a relatively new area of interest and gained knowledge about the same.
Learning Outcome 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I was able to identify my weaknesses, namely the lack of knowledge and experience in farming and the environment and I decided to take up this CAS experience to address the same. By exploring a field that I did not previously know about and through this experience, I demonstrated self-awareness and commitment to personal growth.
Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Firstly, learning and practically applying the Miyawaki technique was a challenge as it was a new area for me. By undertaking this challenge, I developed practical skills in relation to planting techniques, understanding plant growth, teamwork and following instructions.
In essence, I demonstrated a willingness to learn and grow as a learner through this CAS activity.
