CAS EXPERIENCE REFLECTION
Activity: ISSO Tournament (Boys & Volunteering for U14 and U19 Girls)
Date & Location: Choithram International School, Indore
CAS Strand(s): Service,Activity
Experience Overview:
Additionally, I had the opportunity to volunteer for the U14 and U19 Girls’ matches at our school. My role involved escorting teams to their matches, guiding them to their resting areas, and ensuring they had the necessary assistance throughout the event. This experience allowed me to engage in service while contributing to the smooth functioning of the tournament.
Learning Outcomes Achieved:
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Playing in a highly competitive environment helped me recognize my strengths in defense and strategic gameplay while also highlighting areas needing improvement, such as ball control and endurance under pressure. This experience was a learning curve that encouraged me to refine my skills further.
While volunteering, I realized my ability to communicate effectively with players and officials. However, I also learned the importance of better time management and multitasking when handling multiple responsibilities at once.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Each match posed unique challenges, from adapting to different playing styles to making split-second tactical decisions. Overcoming these challenges helped me enhance my ability to stay composed under pressure and improve my decision-making on the field.
Volunteering also presented its own challenges, such as handling last-minute schedule changes and ensuring teams were in the right places at the right times. This helped me develop my problem-solving skills and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Preparing for the tournament required extensive training, early morning drills, and continuous effort. Despite facing setbacks, including our quarter-final exit, I remained dedicated to the sport, striving to improve for future competitions.
Likewise, my commitment to volunteering remained strong despite the physically demanding nature of the role. Ensuring a smooth experience for the teams was rewarding and reinforced my dedication to service.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively
Football is a team sport, and this tournament reinforced the importance of communication, coordination, and trust among teammates. Our success in reaching the quarter-finals was largely due to our ability to work together and support each other throughout the matches.
Similarly, volunteering required teamwork with fellow volunteers and event coordinators. Efficient coordination allowed us to guide players effectively and ensure everything ran smoothly.
Reflection:
The ISSO Tournament was not merely a sports competition; it was also a chance to develop as an athlete, leader, and team member. It focused on discipline, resilience, and teamwork. While we did not succeed in reaching the semi-finals, it serves as a huge motivation for me to work harder, learn from my mistakes, and polish my skills for upcoming tournaments. This experience further fueled my my passion for football and commitment to self improvement.
In addition, learning through volunteering showed me the aspects of service and organization that large events require. Helping in smooth operation of the tournament instilled a sense of responsibility and fulfilment.
