Pi Day

CAS Blog – Organizing and Managing Pi Day

Pi Day was an exciting event where we celebrated the importance of mathematics in a fun and interactive way. My role in this event was mainly managing the event and being part of the decoration team. We had to transform the venue with a Pi Day theme, making sure that every detail reflected the significance of the mathematical constant ? (pi). Alongside the decor, we had multiple stalls, including Pi-related quizzes and food stalls, to keep everyone engaged. While it was a lot of hard work, seeing the final setup and how much people enjoyed the event made it all worth it. This experience helped me develop event management skills, teamwork, and creativity while also teaching me the importance of attention to detail and organization.

LO1: Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth

During the event, I realized that I am good at organization and visual creativity, which helped in the decorating process. I was able to contribute ideas and help bring the Pi Day theme to life in a visually appealing way. However, I also noticed that time management was a challenge, as setting up the decorations took longer than expected. This experience taught me that while I have strengths in creativity and problem-solving, I need to improve my ability to plan ahead and manage my time efficiently in future events.

LO2: Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills

One of the biggest challenges was ensuring that all decorations were ready on time and that the venue looked well-organized. At first, it was overwhelming to manage different tasks at once, but I learned to prioritize and delegate work. Another challenge was keeping up with the energy and demands of event management, as things don’t always go as planned. Through this experience, I developed better problem-solving skills and adaptability, learning how to adjust quickly and work under pressure.

LO3: Demonstrate How to Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience

Pi Day required a lot of planning and coordination. We had to come up with decoration ideas, gather materials, and set everything up in a limited time. I played an active role in helping organize the decor team and ensuring that our theme was consistent throughout the venue. I also assisted in coordinating with other teams to ensure everything ran smoothly. This experience taught me that good planning is essential for a successful event and that teamwork plays a huge role in execution.

LO4: Show Commitment and Perseverance in CAS Experience

Managing and decorating the venue was not easy—it required a lot of effort and patience. We had to set up the decorations, fix any last-minute issues, and ensure the stalls were ready on time. Even though it was tiring, I stayed committed to my tasks, making sure that everything was in place before the event started. This experience reinforced the importance of perseverance and dedication in any task, no matter how challenging it may seem.

LO5: Demonstrate the Skills and Recognize the Benefits of Working Collaboratively

Pi Day was not a one-person job—it was a team effort. From decorating to managing stalls, everyone had their own role to play, and we had to communicate effectively to make sure everything was done well. I learned that trusting my team and coordinating properly made the work easier and more enjoyable. Working together also helped us solve problems faster, especially when things didn’t go as planned. This experience showed me how collaboration leads to success and makes large tasks more manageable.

LO7: Recognize and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions

Throughout the event, we made sure that everything was done fairly and ethically. Whether it was ensuring that quiz winners were chosen fairly or making sure everyone in the team contributed equally, we kept integrity at the center of our work. We also cleaned up responsibly after the event, ensuring that we left the venue in the same condition we found it in. This experience made me more aware of how small ethical actions can create a positive impact in any event or activity.

Conclusion

Pi Day was an incredible experience that helped me develop event management, teamwork, and creative problem-solving skills. From decorating the venue to managing the event, I learned the importance of planning, collaboration, and perseverance. The event not only celebrated mathematics in an engaging way but also helped me grow personally, teaching me valuable lessons that I can apply in future projects and responsibilities.
