Bal Mela was an event designed to provide a day of joy and entertainment for underprivileged children. Various activities were set up for them, including games, arts and crafts, and performances. I was assigned to the face painting booth, where I interacted with children and painted designs of their choice.
Reflection:
LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
This experience made me more aware of social disparities and the importance of providing opportunities for all children to experience happiness and creativity. Many of them had never had their faces painted before, and their excitement reminded me how small actions can make a big impact. It also made me reflect on how access to recreational activities, which many take for granted, can bring joy and confidence to children who rarely get such experiences.
LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
At first, I struggled with face painting because I wasn’t used to working on a moving surface. It required patience and adaptability, especially with younger kids who found it difficult to sit still. I developed a steadier hand and learned how to keep them engaged by talking to them while painting. I improved my technique and became faster while maintaining quality, ensuring that every child received a design they were happy with.
LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
It was important to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all the children. I made sure to give each child equal attention and let them choose what they wanted without rushing them. Some children took longer to decide, while others were unsure, so I guided them with suggestions while respecting their choices. I also ensured that every child who wanted a turn got one, even if it meant staying a bit longer. This experience taught me the value of being patient, fair, and considerate in creating positive experiences for others.
