In addition to celebrating mathematics, our Pi Day food stall served as a significant project to help underprivileged youths with their education. We organized and carried out this initiative together, buying books for an NGO with the funds that we generated from the sale of food products. Through this event, we were able to make a significant impact in our local area while merging creativity, teamwork, and social responsibility.
LO1 – Identifying Strengths & Developing Areas for Growth
I discovered my cooking, organizing, cooperation, and communication skills through this project. I was able to demonstrate my cooking abilities by preparing the food for the stall, as well as my ability to work well with others and manage responsibilities was further developed by coordinating with my peers. Aditionally, I also recognized areas where I might improve, including managing my time better and dealing with unforeseen obstacles, which was something we as a group diligently worked on during the process
LO3 – Initiating & Planning a CAS Experience
This project requires careful planning and coordination from ideation to execution. To ensure profitability, we assigned tasks to team members, discussed suitable food items, and estimated expenses. In order to make sure that our efforts resulted in a significant contribution to education, we also planned how to use the revenue for purchasing books. This approach improved my skills for initiative and successful event planning.
LO4: Exhibiting Perseverance and Dedication
This project required perseverance and attention to complete. We were dedicated in despite obstacles like time limits and logistical difficulties, from making food and monitoring sales at the event to making sure the books were delivered to the NGO. When we witnessed the beneficial effects of our efforts on those young individuals who obtained the donated books, we knew that our persistence had paid off.
The Pi Day food stall was a fulfilling CAS experience that blended social impact and economics. It not only gave me the opportunity to work on and develop important abilities, but it also highlighted how crucial patience and teamwork are to bring a constructive change. Most significantly, it was rewarding to help promote literacy and lessen educational inequalities, which made this project a worthwhile experience.
