FS Got Talent – Project

FS Got Talent was an incredible celebration of creativity, passion, and togetherness. This year’s event brought students, teachers, and parents together for an unforgettable evening, showcasing a wide range of talents that made our school community shine.

As one of the event organisers, I had the chance to immerse myself in the experience and connect deeply with several key IB learning outcomes. Here’s how my journey reflected those values.

LO1: Identify your strengths and develop areas for personal growth

I identified my strengths in event planning and communication. I was effectively able to communicate with my fellow peers and teachers. I was able to give quality inputs for the logistics of the event (including decor, the participants, category of the events and more) However, I recognised the need to improve my time-management skills. At times, it felt that it was difficult for me as event organiser to complete the decor, see if everyone were working efficiently and focusing on my studies. Therefore I believe better time management skills from my side could have really helped me be without stress towards the end of the event.

LO2: Demonstrate that you have undertaken new challenges

It was very difficult to plan such a big event as FS Got Talent. In order to assure a smooth program flow, I took on tasks like decor management, giving new ideas to the project and other additional responsibilities such as supervising. Through these new experiences, I was able to improve my communication skills (by reaching out to teammates and teachers), time management skills (by juggling school and event deadlines), and problem-solving abilities (by resolving both internal and external difficulties faced by my team to achieve completing the decor).

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

The FS Got Talent project required scrupulous preparation and execution. I took the initiative to make sure the decor was organized and from coming up with the event’s framework to assigning roles and responsibilities. My team and I worked together to create posters, promote the event, and communicate with teachers. I learned from this experience how crucial good planning and collaboration are to achieving a vision.

LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.

Putting together a school-wide event needed persistent commitment. Even though things didn’t always go as planned, giving up was never an option. It was difficult to juggle organizing the event and homework, but I was determined to make sure everything happened without a hitch. I learned the importance of perseverance in reaching achievement by remaining motivated, putting forth my best effort, and pushing through all the obstacles.

LO5: Demonstrating the Skills and Recognising the Benefits of Working Collaboratively

The success of FS Got Talent was largely due to it’s teamwork. To make this event into a reality, I collaborated extensively with my fellow peers, teachers, and school staff. Cooperation and good communication were crucial for everything from backstage logistics to the performace. I discovered from this experience that teamwork and respecting the opinions of all team members provide better outcomes and a more enjoyable process.

Critical Thinking: I used critical thinking skills to brainstorm ideas for the event in terms of themes and decor.

Communication: I used communication skills to effectively communicate with the peers and teachers to share my ideas and even consider their point of view.

Self-management: I used self management skills (time-management skills) to manage time for the event alongside with my studies.

Collaboration: I collaborated with my peers throughout the process.

LO6: Demonstrating Engagement with Issues of Global Significance

Although the main purpose of FS Got Talent was to honor creativity, it also provided a forum for bringing significant societal issues to light. Themes like expressing yourself, cultural diversity, and mental health were emphasised in several performances. By giving students a platform to use their abilities to convey important messages, we helped our school community have a more extensive discussion about these global challenges.

LO7: Recognising and Considering the Ethics of Choices and Actions

In my role as organizer, I had to make ethical decisions about inclusivity and fairness. It was essential to make sure that each participant had an equal chance to perform and that the grading standards were clear. We deliberately worked to establish a secure and encouraging setting where each performer felt appreciated and respected. Making appropriate use of stationary and resources was also crucial. It was my duty to make sure the resources were being used appropriately. I took care to utilize pre-made materials and ensured that every decorative piece could be used again in some other events.

FS Got Talent was a journey of creativity, collaboration, and personal development rather than only a talent show. I was challenged in a number of ways by the experience, but I also gained valuable skills and embraced the IB learner profile. In retrospect, I am really pleased of the work that my team and I completed, and I am grateful of having the opportunity to be a part of such an important occasion.
