FSMUN11.0 – Creativity

I had recently participated in the FSMUN as the delegate of Italy in the United Nations Security Council. Basically MUN considers many committee’s which discuss various global topics where delegates of different countries debate in a formal manner and discuss the resolutions the countries will accept. Communication and debating skills play a vital role in this event.

LO1: Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth

Speaking skills are a must while participating in the MUN, which is exactly what I had to use throughout the event. I am usually very good at speaking, I don’t face issues even while speaking publically, so that wasn’t an issue. But I felt as if I wasn’t as well prepared as compared to the other delegates, on the first day I felt as if I didn’t have substantial content that I could deliver. At the end of the first day, I reflected onto the same and did as much research as I could about the conflict, this really helped me on the second day, as I felt even more confident because I was well prepared.

LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.

The agenda of the UNSC was discussing the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. The main role of the committee is to ensure world peace and security. While debating on this topic and hearing the different perspectives that the other countries had to offer. It also made me realize how important diplomacy is in solving the world’s current refugee issue. Participating in this event helped me engage into the current global issues and also helped me undestand how we can make a difference.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.

Ethics of choice and actions plays an important role while participating in MUN as it consists of giving statements which are strong enough and accurate in order to clear the true meaning of the statement spoken. If any misleading statement is given by any delegate it can immediately lead to a counter argument. So I had to be very careful while chosing the words for my speech. I also had to stand with the stance of the country that I was representing and not let my personal opinions and beliefs get into the way.

Overall, being a part of FSMUN 11.0, I had an enriching experience where I gained insights and got an opportunity to demonstrate my public speaking skills. I will be able to use this learning and carry it forward in my future in daily interactions and also for global politics matters. FSMUN provided me with a chance to interact with fellow delegates from my school and others, allowing me to go out of my comfort zone as well.
