Volunteering at the ISSO Event: A Journey of Growth and Collaboration
I recently got a great opportunity to help at the ISSO event that Fountainhead School was hosting. My role as a volunteer for the Indus International School Bangalore U-14 girls’ squad included making sure that everyone was in constant touch, taking the team to their venues, and helping them out however I could. In addition to being fulfilling, this experience improved my understanding of creativity and personal development. Here’s a glimpse into my journey through the lens of various learning outcomes.
LO2: Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills
I had to get out of my comfort zone in order to take on this task. There were several difficulties in organising a team of young athletes, making sure they were at ease and on time, and dealing with unforeseen circumstances. For example, I promptly made arrangements for the team to wait in a shady place with refreshments when a venue was delayed. These experiences improved my problem-solving abilities by teaching me the value of prompt decision-making and clear communication.
LO4: Show Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experience
Continuous focus and effort was necessary for volunteering at the ISSO event. I stayed committed in making sure the athletes had a flawless experience from early morning arrivals to late evening departures. Even though balancing several responsibilities can be stressful, my determination to perform my role kept me inspired. Completing this work in five days showed my dedication and determination.
LO1: Identify Your Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Personal Growth
I discovered that my communication and organisation skills through this role. I also identified areas for personal development, such strengthening my capacity to adjust to changing circumstances. I was able to create plans to improve these abilities even more because of my increased self-awareness.
LO5: Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively
Participating with the team and other volunteers highlighted the importance of teamwork. It took collaboration and open communication to make sure the athletes arrived at their locations on time with everything they needed. I developed my ability to pay attention to the athletes’ views, assign tasks when needed, and coordinate efficiently. This collaborative approach improved the event’s efficiency and built trust between the volunteers and spectators.
