FS Got Talent is our school’s version of the renowned Got Talent series, presenting students with skills in music, dance, magic, and many more. I had volunteered to be part of the decor team, my role was to create an impressive stage setup that complemented the excitement of the event. This experience was a mix of teamwork, decorative crafts, and problem-solving.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Being part of the decor team required both creativity and precision. I discovered that I had a strong sense of aesthetics and could visualize how different elements, such as banners and props, could come together to improve the stage and the venues. Moreover, I was a previous PD student which made it easier for me to produce the items because I could apply those skills here. However, I also realized that teamwork and execution were areas I needed to improve. Initially, I struggled as I often spending too much time perfecting small details. This event was one of the first event I invested in for such a long time, and I began having friction with the team over why my ideas were not used. Over time, I learned that this a team effort and the vision of the whole team needs to be put forward to make the event successful. This is also taught me to prioritize tasks and focus on the bigger picture, to make sure that the decor was visually stunning and got completed within the given timeframe.
LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Decorating for FS Got Talent was not a one-day task, it required extensive planning, and coordination. This one month event had us designing backdrops to setting up props, and ensuring everything was in place before the event. The process was demanding and there were moments of exhaustion, especially when last-minute adjustments were needed, but I remained dedicated to the team and the final vision (a old theater theme). Despite the challenges, I stayed persistent, knowing that our efforts contributed to the success of the event. As I saw the final setup, and the reactions from both performers and the audience made all the hard work worth it.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Working in a team was essential, as decor required contributions from multiple people to bring the vision to life. As mentioned before, this experience was especially impactful on my view on how to collaborate and work with others. Collaboration involved brainstorming ideas, dividing tasks, and helping each other whenever difficulties arrived. There were creative differences, but through discussions and compromise, we were able to merge ideas and create an amazing product. This experience showed the importance of teamwork, patience, and effective communication. Each team member brought an unique skills to the table.
