Bal Mela- Service

Bal Mela was an event held in school where kids from various government schools came to my school and participated in activities that we organized. This event allowed me to step into the other kids’ shoes, which made me realize how happy they were with whatever they had.

Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Planning this event required a clear vision and thorough preparation. I started by assessing the needs and interests of the children, ensuring the selected games were age-appropriate, engaging, and educational. I organized resources, created a schedule, and coordinated with school authorities to make the event possible. Throughout the process, I had to adapt my plans to manage logistical challenges and ensure the children’s safety. This experience helped me develop my organizational and leadership skills, as well as my ability to think on my feet and adjust plans when needed.

Learning Outcome 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
By working with children from a government school, I engaged with important social issues such as educational equity and social inclusion. Many of these children may not have regular access to extracurricular activities or structured play, which are critical for their cognitive and social development. Providing them with an opportunity to learn through play helped contribute to the broader global goal of promoting quality education and reducing inequality.

Learning Outcome 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
This experience also required me to carefully consider the ethical implications of my actions. I ensured that all activities were conducted in a safe and respectful environment, prioritizing the well-being of the children. I was mindful not to overstep boundaries, maintaining professionalism while building trust and rapport with the kids. I learned the importance of ethical responsibility when engaging in community service, recognizing that my actions should genuinely benefit those I aim to help.

Overall, this event allowed me to not only develop practical skills in planning and executing a CAS project but also provide a platform to engage with significant social issues while maintaining high ethical standards. The experience reinforced my belief that community service is not just about helping others but doing so with integrity, empathy, and a genuine commitment to positive change.
