Bal mela

Bal Mela was an enriching experience where I had the opportunity to engage underprivileged children in a fun and interactive game of Seven Tiles. The event was designed to provide these children with a day of joy, teamwork, and learning through play. My role involved not only teaching them the rules of the game but also ensuring that every child actively participated and enjoyed the activity. Through this experience, I was able to connect with the children, understand their perspectives, and contribute to their happiness while developing my own skills.

Learning Outcomes Catered

LO1: Identify Own Strengths and Areas for Growth

While I was familiar with Seven Tiles, teaching it to a group of young children required patience and clarity. I realized that explaining rules in a simple and engaging manner was one of my strengths. However, I also identified an area for growth—maintaining the attention and enthusiasm of all participants, especially those who were initially hesitant to play.

LO2: Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken

One of the main challenges was managing a large group of energetic children with different levels of familiarity with the game. Some children quickly understood the rules, while others needed extra guidance. I overcame this by breaking down the instructions, demonstrating the game, and encouraging peer support, making sure that every child could participate confidently.

LO4: Show Commitment and Perseverance

It was important to keep the children engaged and motivated throughout the game. Some got frustrated when they lost, while others struggled to coordinate with their teammates. I remained committed to ensuring that every child enjoyed the game by encouraging teamwork, celebrating small victories, and keeping the atmosphere positive.

LO5: Work Collaboratively With Others

Since Seven Tiles is a team-based game, I had to encourage collaboration among the children. I helped them understand the importance of strategy, communication, and cooperation. Additionally, I worked alongside other volunteers to organize and facilitate the game smoothly, ensuring that every child had a chance to play.

LO6: Engagement With Global Issues

Sports and recreational activities play a crucial role in child development, particularly for underprivileged children who may not always have access to structured play. Through Bal Mela, I recognized the global issue of unequal access to play and recreational learning. By organizing this activity, I contributed to providing a joyful and enriching experience for the children, emphasizing the importance of play in overall well-being.

LO7: Recognize and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions

Inclusivity and fairness were essential in this activity. I ensured that every child had an equal opportunity to participate, regardless of their skill level. Additionally, I emphasized the importance of sportsmanship, teaching the children to respect each other, celebrate teamwork, and play fairly.

Conclusion

Bal Mela was a heartwarming experience that reinforced the power of play in bringing joy and learning to children. It taught me valuable lessons in patience, leadership, and adaptability. Seeing the children smile and enjoy the game was incredibly fulfilling, and this experience reminded me of the impact small actions can have on others’ lives.
